ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned).

1.PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE

1.1Continuously improve professional knowledge and practice through appropriate professional development activities, share information and knowledge with other teachers; apply the best research.
1.2Maintain and incorporate the best research in materials, techniques and therapy.

2.PLANNING

2.1Set short-term and year long goals for individual educational plans based on sound principles and practices of speech and language therapy.
2.2 Develop and maintain plans based on short-term and year-long goals and share when appropriate.
2.3Acts as a resource to teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
2.4Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language impairments.
2.5Provides screening to identify children at risk, speech and language problems at regular intervals and at specified levels.

2.6Assists in proper referral of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
2.7Maintain systems of assessment and measurements which reflect progress in achieving IEP goals and objectives.

3.SCREENING, REFERRAL AND ASSESSMENT

3.1Acts as a resource to teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
3.2Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language impairments.
3.3Provides screening to identify children at risk, speech and language problems at regular intervals and at specified levels.

4.USE OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

4.1Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance therapy.

5.EFFECTIVENESS OF THERAPY

5.1Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of the speech, language, and hearing impaired children.
5.2Provides appropriate small group programs and therapy to meet students' needs and remediate existing speech or language disabilities.
5.3Promote a high level of improvement by setting high standards and clear goals.

6.EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

6.1Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
6.2Participate actively in team/department/staff meetings.
6.3Consults to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
6.4Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement strategies pertaining to the student's daily activities.
6.5Provides inservice education and services as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech and language issues.

7.CONTRIBUTIONS TO STUDENTS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

7.1Be available for student and/or parent conferences and IEP meetings.

8.CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SCHOOL AND/OR TEACHING PROFESSION

8.1Work Collaboratively to identify areas for improvement, develop possible strategies, and assess results.
8.2Completes other duties as assigned.
9.ENFORCEMENT AND COMPLIANCE WITH EXISTING SPECIAL EDUCATION LAWS

9.1Observe and implement the rules and regulations established by special education law.

EVALUATION:Consistent with current Agreement between the Longmeadow School Committee and the Longmeadow Education Association.
