Assistant Superintendent for Administration

Frederick County Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for Administration for the school division. Frederick County Public Schools, VA is located in the Shenandoah Valley, just 65 miles west of Washington, D.C. We are one of the fastest growing counties in Virginia serving nearly 14,000 students with 12 elementary, four middle, three high schools and two learning centers. This position serves as the primary advisor to the Superintendent in all areas of operational support for the school division to include Facilities Services, Hearing Officer/Safety and Security, Information Services, Planning and Development, School Nutrition Services, School Construction, Human Resources and Transportation.  The incumbent will work closely with the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in coordinating school division operations to support the Inspire 2025 mission. This position also serves as the Superintendent’s designee in disciplinary appeals and in employee pre-termination hearings.

Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree preferably in Business, Public or School Administration; a doctorate is preferred. The qualified candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 10 years in K-12 leadership; experience in leading operational departments that include one of more of the areas of responsibility is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with principals, teachers, supervisors, parents, other school officials, and county staff.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles, practices related to the areas of responsibility, as well as the federal, state, and local regulations that govern school administration.
  • Ability to manage department fiscal affairs and to direct the operations of a broad range of activities through subordinate directors to successfully carry out the division’s responsibilities.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate work of professionals and administrators and to participate in assessment and evaluation.
  • Ability to communicate skillfully both orally and in writing including preparing complex reports, making formal presentations, and preparing correspondence to the Superintendent.

This is a 12 month position effective for the 2021-2022 school year.
