Primary Purpose:

Provide ELL students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enagle ELL students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):

Bachelor's degree from accredited university, valid Texas teaching certificate with required ESL and/or Bilingual endorsements for subject and level assigned.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Strategies - Plan, develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's instructional program and show written evidence of preparations as required; prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student abilities and learning styles; linguistically accommodate instruction as appropriate for English language learners; coordinate with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Student Growth and Development - Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; help improve the achievement of all students; conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing and provide remediation as appropriate to ensure student mastery; assume responsibility and sponsor extracurricular activities as appropriate.
  • Classroom Management and Organization - Create a classroom environment conducive to active and successful student learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students; manage student behavior.
  • Communication - Establish and maintain effective open communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators; participate in staff professional development activities.
  • Professional Growth and Development - Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills; comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers; and attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conserve electricity as outlined in the districts energy management plan.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction, particularly in subjects assigned.
  • Skill in assisting ELL students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Skill in effectively managing a classroom and student behavior.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with others.
  • Skill in preparing lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in ELL student learning styles.
  • Skill in planning and using appropriate ELL instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Skill in the use of technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Maintain emotional control under stress; must be able to lift and/or carry at least 30 lbs.
