GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is responsible for supporting the instructional program by providing leadership, direction and coordination for literacy curriculum, instruction, assessment programming and related activities; assisting and supporting school personnel in design, development and alignment of curriculum and instructional methodologies. Also responsible for providing information and serving as a resource to others; coordinating professional development programs; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Oversees the adoption of materials/resources, the writing of detailed daily curriculum, the writing of assessments aligned to state standards, and the building of all courses into the learning management system, Canvas, for the regular school year and Explore for 6-12 ELA and World Language courses.

Orders, sorts, and distributes the Gateway and Truman award winner books to each 6-12 ELA and reading teacher in the district each year.

Manages multiple software programs including programming, troubleshooting, and responding to/resolving daily issues for 6-12 ELA and World Language courses.

Creates the curriculum, small group writing, teacher training, and implementation for Club Encore, the after school-tutoring program.

Assists with coordinating, planning, and training as assigned for various teacher-training opportunities for 6-12 ELA and World Language teachers.

Supports Title I with the implementation of the reading program READ 180 and System 44 by conducting monthly coaching visits with teachers.

Ensures state compliance with standards, curriculum writing, and other teacher opportunities to enrich learning in the classroom and achieve District objectives for 6-12 ELA and World Language courses.

Collaborates as requested for course creation and management of course catalogs to ensure proper teacher certification, curriculum, assessments, resources, and instruction for 6-12 ELA and World Language courses.

Analyzes a variety of program and/or student related data identifying relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will provide direction and support to effectively address immediate and future needs.

Coordinates and provides leadership for curriculum development committees comprised of internal and external stakeholders ensuring appropriate representation of multiple constituents for 6-12 ELA and World Language.

Participates in state and national professional educational organizations remaining current with educational developments and research for 6-12 ELA and World Language.

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to initiate and/or maintain effective relationships/partnerships in order to maximize resources for 6-12 ELA and World Language.

Collaborates with a variety of external entities ensuring effective two-way communication in order to implement and/maintain effective programs and services.

Coordinates and supervises the processes for selection and allocation of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment ensuring resources are definable, repeatable, measurable, and predictable for 6-12 ELA and World Language.

Develops and implements budgets for the purpose of achieving program goals and maximizing use of funds for 6-12 ELA and World Language.

Disseminates information to teachers and principals regarding trends in literacy and world language curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessments ensuring informed and effective practices.

Facilitates meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars conveying and/or gathering information for 6-12 ELA and World Language.

Prepares and disseminates a wide variety of materials providing reference, documenting activities, and conveying information.

Provides research-based professional learning for teachers and principals regarding literacy maximizing effectiveness of instruction.

Responds to inquiries resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.

Performs other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Minimum of four (4) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

Possession of a Missouri Teacher Certificate.

Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.

Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include instructional procedures and practices; age appropriate student activities; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; and stages of child development/ behavior.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.

The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
