The Opportunity :
The Amigos School seeks a JK-8 Two-Way Immersion Coach to join our caring and innovative community. The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum that supports rigorous learning in two languages. He/she will have experience working with teachers to support pedagogical and content knowledge for teaching and learning. He/She will also have experience supporting language development through the content areas of Mathematics, Literacy, Science and Social Studies.

The Two-Way Immersion Instructional Coach is a key member of the school leadership team, ensuring that our community is properly equipped to deliver world-class instruction in Spanish and English both in person and virtually. Moreover, she/he will be fully committed to continuously learning, improving, reflecting and working together to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding our Two-Way Immersion model, the Framework for Teaching, and data analysis.
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
  • Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
  • Create an articulated schedule and language allocation model with building administration.
  • Provide technical support to collaborative teams within buildings.
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
  • Support teachers by helping with the ?strategic how of teaching __ share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
  • Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher's professional growth and students' success.
  • Develop staff members' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
  • Utilize Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice. Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
  • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
Your Skill Set :
As the incoming Dual Language Instructional Coach you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:
  • High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing ( required ).
  • 5+ years of recent, successful experience teaching and/or coaching teachers in student-centered classrooms with inquiry-based methodologies;
  • Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Previous experience working in dual language schools and familiarity with current research and pedagogy around translanguaging and critical consciousness.
  • Proven leadership capacity and ability to work cooperatively with staff and parents.
  • Experience with and ability to provide professional development to adults in curriculum, content, and pedagogy.
  • A deep level of understanding of the Common Core State Standards
  • Experience using authentic, performance-based assessments.
  • Experience supporting English Learners and students with IEP's in the classroom.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience analyzing standards and identifying appropriate tools and resources for instruction.
  • Energy, sense of humor, commitment to teaching all children, and a belief that all children and teachers can learn.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree or higher preferred.
  • Massachusetts's teacher certification/licensure in Elementary 1-6 required.
