Description

Essential Functions

  • Member of leadership team charged with successful school openings and provides timely status reports during the new school activation period.
  • Oversee external and internal resources required for facilities identification and buildout for activation of schools, to include facility design, floor plans, school layout and signage, permitting, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E), document maintenance, construction, and operations turnover.
  • Oversee third party architects, general contractors, and sub-contractors for accurate technical completion on time and on budget.
  • Direct and approve the preparation and review of all types of bids, invitations to negotiate, quotes, professional service proposals, request for qualifications, and contract documents in accordance with school board policy and Florida statute.
  • Development and management of budgets for new school buildout and existing location renovation.
  • Develops and implements prevention strategies to minimize the likelihood of disruptions to the learning environment as well as to the areas in the vicinity of the school.
  • Develops and maintains vendor relationships to support the organization's goals.
  • Leads discussion and interaction with landlords on new location negotiation, existing school facilities maintenance and lease renewal.
  • Performs routine scheduled and unscheduled visits to ensure that the schools, all facilities, and grounds are in good working condition and meet organizational standards.
  • Works with Controller to develop, implement and maintain a cost savings plan and a multi-year capital plan for renovation, expansion, and efficient maintenance planning. To maintain purchase processes to enable school-based resource procurement utilizing the best cost and highest quality guidelines.
  • Works with the Director of Safety & Security to ensure that all schools have met all facility related safety requirements and certifications.
  • Works with the Executive Director of School Operations to assist Schools in implementing effective security and emergency preparedness plans in alignment with state, local and organizational requirements.
  • Works with Regional Directors and Principals to ensure all facility related district deliverables due prior to school opening are met on-time and in compliance.
  • Works with Principals as the first point of contact for repair and maintenance issues and to develop preferred contractor lists for each district and provides an updated vendor list for each facility.
  • Assists in management of insurance program relationship providing information needs for existing coverage Request for Information (RFI), program renewals or claims management.
  • Assists in development of grant and charter applications and budgets.
  • Works with Finance to develop, implement and manage the company-wide inventory control program. (Grants and asset tagging and management).
  • Coordinates the storage/delivery of all company furniture, fixtures, and equipment in inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Knowledge of leadership and management of large project management teams
  • Knowledge of long- and short-range facilities planning, construction, maintenance, and renovation.
  • Knowledge of grant management, administration, and writing.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOE regulations.
  • Ability to manage assets and budgets.
  • Ability to manage third party architects, general contractors, and sub-contractors.
  • Ability to manage projects and/or related support services to realize a successful capital building program.
  • Skilled in the use of public relations and communications.
  • Skilled in the use of standards and regulations for design and construction of educational facilities.
  • Skilled in negotiating design and construction contracts.

Director of School Facilities and Development reports to the Vice President of School Operations assisting in school site selection, the timely and efficient opening of new schools and efficient and effective daily physical plant operational functions including capital planning, building maintenance, and asset management of all schools.
