The Madison County Math Team collaborates internally and with administrators, teachers, and other district specialists in a variety of contexts, including meeting with teachers during PLCs and planning times, analyzing benchmark testing data, co-teaching and/or modeling tasks in the classroom, working with students in individual and small group settings, and conducting in-district professional development. As such, Math Team members are expected to demonstrate expertise in mathematical content knowledge, current research-based instructional strategies, and interpersonal skills. Math Team members are expected to continue to grow as professionals by attending professional development and professional conferences, investigating math education resources, and sharing materials among colleagues.

Minimum Requirements :
  • A valid Mississippi Educator License with endorsement code: 154; a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education or in Elementary Education (with an emphasis in mathematics) is preferredMinimum of 3 years of classroom experienceIn-depth knowledge of mathematical content and instructional strategiesAbility to co-plan, co-teach, and/or model current best practices with teachers and administrators inside and outside of the classroomAbility to collaborate flexibly with team members and other district personnelAbility to self-monitor, multi-task, and deliver a variety of high-quality instructional resources in a timely manner, based on the needs of students, teachers, and administratorsAbility to travel throughout district and to trainings for professional purposes

Basic Responsibilities :
  • Work in tandem with other Math Team members to research and implement current best practices for teaching mathematics in K-5 classrooms and small group settingsObserve students during Tier 1 instruction to help teachers identify student misconceptions and work with teachers to develop research-based strategies and classroom tasks for helping address those misconceptionsMeet with students in individual and small group settings to strengthen long-term success in mathematicsMeet with teachers during PLCs and planning times to discuss curriculum, content, and pedagogy; respond with instructional resources/materials based on their needsCollaborate with Math Team members to strengthen and refine district Pacing Guides, Deconstructions, and other district math curriculum resourcesCo-plan, co-teach, and/or model current best practices in K-12 math classroomsActively participate in professional development opportunities (both presenting and attending), as determined to be appropriate by district supervisors
