Qualifications:
  • Wyoming PTSB certificate in a secondary content area with successful experience as a teacherSuccessful experience as a counselor, instructional coach or similar role, is highly desiredCo-teaching and planning experience, preferred.Relevant life experience that relates to work with at risk youthPossessing or Obtaining the At-Risk Certification via the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB)
  • Background in PBIS and Restorative Justice, conflict resolution skills preferredUnderstanding of external/community resources and support systemsProficient in oral and written communicationAbility to independently problem solveAdept in building positive relationships/collaboration with other staff, stakeholders

Nature and Scope of Job: This Teacher will fulfill the Wolverine Academy Mission and Goals: The mission of an Alternative Program at RHS is to reduce truancy, absenteeism, academic failings, and incidents of behavior in the classroom for students most at risk of school failure and create a path for these students to successfully progress toward high school graduation by addressing their unique and varied needs.

The Wolverine Academy Teacher will create a physically and emotionally safe learning environment that builds a team atmosphere/positive relationships via a smaller and consistent teacher/student ratio. The primary focus of the program will be the social and emotional growth and development of the students who participate. Academic achievement will not be the singular or principal priority. Positive, unconditional relationships have been identified as the key factor in the success of students in alternative settings, and this will be the crucial vehicle the advancement of the identified youth.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Work with instructional team to adopt current units of instruction and assessments to fit the needs of students enrolled in the Wolverine Academy. This could include seeking resources and professional development that is specific to meeting the needs of at-risk studentsFacilitate Individual Learning Plan development and implementation by guiding students as they: create a vision for their future, design their own pathway to achievement based on personal data and information, set relevant and attainable goals, track progress on goals, change and or modify pathway as appropriate, celebrate progress and achievementsUtilize a variety of instruction delivery in coordination with the grade level teachers and instructional facilitators.Assist students to overcome problems that impede learning and help them make sound educational choices/developmentParticipate in student selection process for admitting and exiting to and from the programCommunicate regularly with parents/guardians, support staff, and administration regarding student social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs and progress
