Shift times will be scheduled based on your intuitions agreement for graduation requirements.

Internships are for current graduate students in the field of Speech and Language Pathology. Interns would be completing aspects of the work outlined in the job description below. Specific duties would be determined by the interns, their district field supervisor, and their university supervisor.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position requires working with children of various ages and a variety of disabilities (preschool to 12th grade). Position requires being an itinerant and traveling to different school sites within the district.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Evaluate communication problems including receptive-expressive language, articulation, voice, fluency, neuromuscular and non-vocal.
  • Must document evaluation results and relate the impact of the communication disorder to the educational performance of students.
  • Identify needs, prepare treatment plans, make recommendations regarding the interventions and individualized programs (IEPs).
  • Provide speech/language therapy to communication-disordered students from regular and special educations classrooms.
  • Provide informational and consultative services relative to the management of the communication disorder to the student, education team, family, related medical agencies and community agencies.
  • Demonstrate positive relationship skills with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Able to function effectively as an active, productive, and integral member of educational teams.
  • Able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to organize caseloads.
  • Document third party billing activities.
  • Knowledge of due process.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws relating to children with disabilities.
  • Able to complete activities that support compliance with Federal, State and local mandates.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Graduate student currently enrolled in a Speech and Language Pathology program

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with children and families who are culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must deal with angry and upset students, parents, and community members. The employee must adjust to frequent interruptions in their work schedule.

WORK SCHEDULE
7.5 hours/day.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Interns will receive supervision through their assigned field supervisor in conjunction with their university supervisor. Adjustments to internship activities, including schedule, will be made as needed through collaboration between field and university supervisors and the intern.

Depending on the program, a stipend may be available.
