POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor - Central Garage Services, the Garage Coordinator administers and supervises central garage and bus lot activities and operations. This is skilled work involving extensive as an automotive mechanic with some experience in a supervisory capacity. As an employee in this class, the incumbent will plan administer the activities and operations of a garage during the busy duty hours of the day shift. The incumbent as the garage coordinator will work the Garage Service Writer to prioritize all garage work order repairs. Supervision is exercised over Automotive Mechanic II's, Automotive Mechanic I?s, Trade Helpers, Service Attendants, Tire and Lube Crews, Automotive Glass, Upholsterer and Machinist.

This is a ACE/AFSCME, Local 2250 Position - Pay Table 200 - Grade 20

Hourly Range: $25.34 - $50.18 (external candidates may not be placed above Step 6 $33.77 due to contractual requirements)

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Gives technical advice to automotive mechanic, trade helpers, and service attendants;
  • Decides need and feasibility of major repairs on individual pieces of equipment;
  • Recommends specifications for purchase of shop equipment and supplies;
  • Supervises maintenance records and other records as assigned;
  • Requisitions parts for storeroom and other supplies needed; and
  • Performs related work as required.


  • Job Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS :

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator?s License (minimum of Class A restricted CDL) with a driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle. ( See Prince George?s County Public Schools? Bulletin A-26-85 dated October 8, 1984;
  • Considerable mechanical and diagnostic skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices and tools of automotive mechanic trade;
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines;
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade;
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to make simple arithmetical computations and tabulations;
  • Ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems;
  • Skill in use and care of hand and machine tools employed in motor repair and adjustment work;
  • Ability to plan, layout and supervise the work of automotive mechanics, trade helpers, automotive service attendants, tire and lube crews, automotive upholsterer, machinist, garage service writers;
  • Skills in adjusting defects in automotive equipment;
  • Mechanical aptitude;
  • Needs hands-on experience in the user of the Faster Fleet Management System; and
  • Ability to review/edit and make corrections (accountability of parts, mechanics time, etc.).

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    High School graduate; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    None required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
