Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

KIPP DC seeks a Senior Accountant to join the KIPP DC Finance Team. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions including managing the accounts payable process and entering, reviewing, and revising transactions in the accounting system. The Senior Accountant will work with members of the finance team, other stakeholders in the organization, and outside vendors and/or contractors. The Senior Accountant is an exempt position and will report to the Senior Accounting Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting Functions - 70%
  • Review accounts payable transactions for appropriateness and proper coding
  • Monitor the online payables system and corporate credit card accounts
  • Support the review of credit card transaction coding
  • Manage the credit card expense report submission process
  • Monitor the accounts payable email address
  • Prepare and reconcile all applicable accounts payable reports such as aging, vendor 1099s, procurement report
  • Support procurement system implementation related to accounts payable functions
  • Other ad-hoc accounting functions

Maintain vendor relationships - 20%
  • Maintain vendor relationships and collect logistical documentation for annual 1099 processing

Training -10%
  • Conduct payables and credit card process training sessions for KIPP DC employees


Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Three to Four years of relevant experience required
  • Demonstrated expertise in spreadsheet and accounting software applications
  • Experience reviewing a high volume of invoices
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong time management skills and a detail and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
  • Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment along with an outstanding ability to multi-task, prioritize, and execute projects at a high level
  • Commitment to KIPP DC's mission and strength in the key competencies of accountability, driving results, initiative, teamwork and collaboration and tenacity
