Qualifications:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to high school graduation, including or supplemented by an acceptable apprentice-level air conditioning, refrigeration, heating maintenance, or HVAC training program, plus six years of progressively more responsible experience in air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, commercial steam/hot water boiler repairs, and general HVAC cleaning and repair maintenance, some of which shall have been at the lead level. Comprehensive knowledge of methods and practices of the air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, commercial steam/hot water boiler, general HVAC maintenance trades and of the properties, characteristics, and uses of related equipment, materials, and tools; skill in performance of the work and knowledge of local, state, and national codes; ability to assign and supervise subordinate employees; ability to carry out a maintenance and repair activity within established policies; plans, and requirements and to coordinate work with other shops and departments; ability to instruct and train subordinates in all phases of work and to assist them with work problems; ability to enforce safety and other regulations; ability to read and interpret work orders, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals; ability to estimate costs of work performed; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports; ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships; strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks. Possession of a valid EPA-approved universal refrigerant recovery certification to include types I, II, and III. Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Virginia master's mechanical license preferred. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
