Contingent upon funding

Under direction of the Director of School Counseling and the general direction of the Network Superintendent, the school counselor specialist will play an integral role in coaching and supporting lead school counselors and counselors in the following key areas of the American School Counselor Association Standards as they relate to academic achievement, college and career readiness, and social emotional development. The specialist will provide counselors with supplemental coaching, resources, and best practices based upon the ASCA standards.

Additionally, the school counselor specialist will:
  • Become members of a professional learning community where purposeful collaboration, flexibility, innovation and shared decision making are essentialParticipate in all district professional development, including working with internal (coaches) and external (consultants) supportsEngage in all district-driven curricular and other initiatives as defined by the Providence School DepartmentFollow all relevant District procedures and policy

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the districts' School Counseling Scope and SequenceConduct cycles of observations and feedback for lead counselors and coaches as assignedSupport the implementation of all programs related to school counselingAssist and supplement all supports related to the American School Counselor Association K-12 College and Career Readiness Standards for every studentDemonstrate a strong working knowledge of the comprehensive school counseling program that promotes college and career readiness and positive social emotional outcomesDevelops expertise by participating in district initiatives on leadership and coaching, development and training, including the recording and analysis of professional practice and coaching sessionsFacilitate professional development for school counselorsAssist with the communication to parents and the community related to academic and college and career readinessCollaborate with school counselors, administrators, and district level staff to improve student achievement through school counselingAssist with the facilitation of regularly scheduled lead counselor meetings and professional learning experiences (PLE) outside of the school dayParticipate in professional learning during the summer (paid at the professional development rate)Attend and engage in training on effective coaching strategiesParticipate in district Counseling PLC scope and sequence design, development and implementation as appropriateSupport lead counselors by acting as a coach and thought partner to collaborate action steps for ongoing improvement of counseling practiceParticipate in district initiatives on leadership and coaching development and trainingInspire, explore and encourage enrichment, dual enrollment and internship opportunitiesAssist with the coordination of external partners to support college and career readiness and post-secondary opportunities (secondary)Partner with community agencies and post-secondary institutions for the enhancement of student experiences in academics, college and career, and social-emotional developmentSupport the coordination, implementation, and completion of students' Individual Learning Plan (secondary)Maintain confidentiality at all timesPerform other duties as designated by the building administrator


Salary Rate Range
Teacher Salary Scale + up to 20 extra days

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in School CounselingAt least two (2) years of successful leadership experience coaching/mentoring, lead counselor experience preferredPrevious teaching experience preferredStrong organizational and communication skillsDemonstrated knowledge of school counseling standards and research-based practicesDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, administrators, and parent/community membersDemonstrated communication and group facilitation skill to effectively lead teamsKnowledge of adult learning theoryHighly proficient in technology and ability to utilize online platformsYou must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employmentBilingual candidates preferredSelected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
