POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Superintendent will serve as the instructional leader for assigned schools. The incumbent will provide leadership, direction, and supervision for schools' efficient operational and academic management by directly supervising a cadre of principals. This position will support the continued growth of principals to increase the effectiveness of the operation, planning, development, and administration of all school-based programs supporting the district's mission to ensure that all students are college and career-ready. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of all applicable board policies. The Associate Superintendent of Schools is expected to provide regular support and guidance to school administrators in alignment with the Atlanta Public Schools Leadership Framework. The position requires strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and best practices for assessment. The Associate Superintendent of schools will be required to lead monthly data conversations with staff to drive informed decision-making and allocation of resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Collaboratively develops the instructional leadership capacity of principals to improve outcomes for all students.
  • Uses evidence of principals' effectiveness to determine, develop, and provide feedback on the practices needing improvement that will grow principals' ability to foster a positive educational environment that supports students' diverse cultural and learning needs.
  • Guides and supports the implementation of continuous improvement planning to develop and facilitate coherent strategic plans aligned with cluster priorities and the district's vision, initiatives, and policies.
  • Communicates with central office leadership to inform the refinement and development of the district's strategies and policies to better support schools, student learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with central office departments to improve services that support principals' focus on student learning and limit distractions.
  • Works with principals to be culturally/socially responsive, establish affirming and inclusive environments for students, parents and staff, and effectively address stakeholder concerns.
  • Assists Principals with assessing, planning, and implementing professional learning for teachers and other instructional staff.
  • Monitors school budgets and provides guidance on equitably redirecting and aligning resources to support students' needs and the school's strategic goals.
  • Coordinates with Teaching & Learning to ensure that curriculum, assessments, and instructional practices are aligned to state standards.
  • Coordinates with Student Services to ensure multi-tiered systems of support are implemented in compliance with state and federal law.
  • Coordinates with the data department to effectively leverage assessment tools and data promptly to monitor progress on school and cluster priorities and ensure data-driven decisions that initiate corrective action or sustain improvement.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Professional Learning to plan ongoing job-embedded professional learning in alignment with the school's strategic plan.
  • Interfaces with governmental agencies, businesses, civic organizations, and the community to communicate targeted information, and to promote the schools' educational initiatives.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative


Requirements :

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Thorough understanding of curriculum and instruction and other student-related services.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to use computer technology in administrative and educational settings demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and consensus-building expertise, and excellent human relations skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience with effective school turnaround practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Master's degree with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, and/or school leadership is required
  • Doctorate degree is preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification at a level 5 or higher in Educational Leadership or Instructional/Curriculum Leadership
  • Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience at the campus level and central administration required, preferably with experience at all three levels - elementary school, middle school, and high school.
  • Experience in school transformation that is results-based and documented evidence of increasing student achievement at the principal level are required.
  • Experience with International Baccalaureate (IB), College and Career Readiness, and STEM programming is preferred.

Grade: 141

Salary: $115, 607 - $ 158, 531
