  • JOB DESCRIPTION

    Position: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
    Reports to: Superintendent
    Site: Central Office
    FLSA Status: Professional Exempt
    Contract Length: 12 months/261 days
    Salary Range: $91,382 to $114,006 (depending on experience)

    Purpose: Provides leadership, advice and support for the alignment of curricula, coordination of instructional services and assessment programs district-wide. Supports district administration and site principals in promoting high quality educational programs for all students. Monitors and assists to revise the DASH district and site plans yearly.
    Oversight of testing program district-wide and provides statistical analysis and data to district administration and the Department of Public Education. Assists and collaborates with principals and other directors in the facilitation of professional development opportunities for the instructional personnel. Assists principals to plan, develop, implement and monitor coaching and mentoring services for selected Level I, II, and III teachers. Provides support to principals and teachers for State Teacher Evaluation System. Serves as district representative on State Assessments initiative sponsored by PED.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    A Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership or related field;
    A Valid NM Education License;
    A valid NM Administrator's License;
    Five years of teaching experience in a public setting;
    Five years of experience in Curricula, Instruction and Assessment;
    Verifiable demonstrated progressive leadership experience;
    TESOL Endorsement preferred;
    Experience working with Native American community or populations preferred;
    Knowledge of NM State Standards, School Grading, State Teacher Evaluation system and DASH Plan preferred;
    Positive, energetic leader who encourages and supports staff members;
    Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision;
    Knowledge and familiarity of content areas and pedagogy curriculum strategies;
    Must have strong verbal and written communication, technology and budget management skills;
    Ability to work cooperatively with all principals and district level administrators;
    Ability to build effective relationships with the community, parents, students, staff and general public;
    Ability to communicate effectively with all school site principals;
    Ability to speak effectively before groups;
    Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
    Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies;

    Essential Duties:

    · Responsible for planning, articulating, implementing, supplying and distributing materials for instructional programs in the schools of the district;

    · Facilitates the textbook committee;

    · Coordinates the assessment of students to determine the adequacy of the curricula;

    · Reviews achievement and progress of the students;

    · Promotes professional development through conferences, classes, materials and inservices;

    · Coordinates the evaluation of the effectiveness of instructional programs, materials and equipment;

    · Ensures that student goals and objectives are met with curriculum, assessments and textbooks;

    · Works with committees for the establishment, revision or extension of educational programs, practices and policies to provide the best possible instructional services for the district;

    · Coordinates the preparation of curriculum guides, courses of study, materials lists, scope and sequence charts and other teaching learning models and/or materials for district use;

    · Facilitates cooperative planning and activities;

    · Plans and prepares proposals as assigned and/or needed;

    · Responsible to check-in with principals upon arrival at respective facilities prior to meeting with staff and mentors;

    · Meets with principals to review and coordinate any trainings, activities or assessments prior to implementation;

    · Coordinates and collaborates with the Superintendent regularly;

    · Develops and supervises the district teacher mentoring program in collaboration with the principals and instructional coaches;

    · Provides technical assistance to teachers and educational assistants on the 3-Tiered Licensure System and completion of the Professional Development Dossier (PDD) required for advancement to Level II or Level III;

    · Provides support to principals and teachers with the State Teacher Evaluation system process;

    · Provides administrative support to program directors; principals and coordinators to facilitate implementation plans;

    · Coordinates tests security training for the district;

    · Responsible for test security, counts and distributes tests and inventories tests upon return;

    · Responsible for the oversight and coordination of the State Assessment requirements under the Public Education Department.

    · Cooperates with public and private agencies, organizations and professional personnel to secure and provide services for students;

    · Develops and monitors program requests and budgets to secure needed staff, related services personnel, materials, equipment and facilities in collaboration with site administrators, other district administrators and Superintendent;

    · Supervises employees assigned to the department;

    · Works with teachers in their classrooms to improve instructional and/or classroom management strategies when requested by site principals.

    · Represents the district at state meetings on administration of curricula, instruction and assessment;

    · Oversees the implementation and training support for PowerSchool, the student information system;

    · Imports and exports data to student information system;

    · Analyzes data from site, district and state assessments;

    · Must be able to interpret data, to provide input and to articulate the need for improvements.

    · Must be able to organize test data information and disseminate to appropriate venues;

    · Develops and coordinates documents of the DASH Plan for both district and individual school sites;

    · Coordinates and serves as the main contact for statewide testing, the district DASH Plan and PED surveys;

    · Completes required reports for review for districts, state and federal agencies;

    · Troubleshoots problems with district reporting programs;

    · Ensures the procurement process is followed when obtaining contracts with outside agencies for services and that the Superintendent is aware of said contracts prior to placement on the school board meeting agenda, as needed;

    · Supervises maintenance of confidential student and program records;

    · Assumes responsibility for compliance and awareness of local, state and federal rules and regulations to include Board Policies, Union Contract, OSHA, NMAA, ADA, etc.;

    · Must be able to handle difficult people and difficult situations; works on conflict resolution and problem solving;

    · Leads people in creating, brainstorming, team building and project management;

    · Must be able to assess situations, to make decisions and to provide direction;

    · Must be able to monitor projects, assignments, and data to ensure work is being completed correctly and meets timelines.

    · Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in the district in accordance with established board policy;

    · Keeps the Superintendent informed of all activities, projects and travel on a weekly basis;

    · Performs other duties as assigned.

    Physical Functions:

    · Stands, sits, talks and listens for long periods of time;

    · Reaching, squatting, kneeling and moving light furniture may be required;

    · Uses repetitive hand, arm and finger motions;

    · Reaches with hands and arms, bends and turns neck frequently;

    · Lifts up to 40 pounds on occasion, 20 pounds frequently;

    · Walks on even and uneven surfaces;

    · Sits at a computer with arms bent and types for various periods of time;

    · Works in an office and/or school environment with varying temperatures and noises;

    · Operates vehicle and equipment with finger(s), hand(s), foot and eye coordination;

    · Travels as necessary to conferences, seminars, trainings and meetings;

    · Attends meetings during the day and in the evening at various locations in and out of the district;

    · Speaks publicly to groups of different sizes and discusses issues at hand;

    Mental Functions:

    · Reads information in various formats, researches information and presents information in both oral and written forms;

    · Must be able to utilize mathematical strategies and analysis;

    · Must be able to stay focused and handle interruptions with professionalism and patience;

    · Must be able to follow policies, procedures, rules, regulations and processes;

    · Must be able to complete job assignments independently and inter-dependently, with little direct supervision.

    Essential Equipment:
