Job Description
Family Engagement Specialist

Job Goal:

1. To engage, educate, empower, and support all families in becoming active partners in their students' learning.

2. To provide support while focusing on engaging all families as equal partners in their students' education.

3. Lead, create, and develop all Family Engagement Center operations, workshop opportunities, partner collaboration, in conjunction with your school's leadership team and if applicable Wraparound Coordinators and or Student Support Team. Focus on school-wide Family Engagement initiatives that provide opportunities for engagement, education, and collaboration between home, school, and community.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Currently:

1. Assist schools and collaborate with New Bedford Public Schools community agencies to ensure families are partners in their child(ren)'s education and welcome them as active participants in other programs at New Bedford sites.

2. Performs the day to day duties needed to run the FEC.

3. Embed and build family engagement opportunities that support your building's SEL, Trauma informed family engagement, school climate focus, and your schools current School Improvement Plan.

4. Attend all family engagement initiatives for your school, including but not limited to open house, parent teacher conferences, and any other opportunities that may arise.

5. Build one-on-one relationships with families, staff, and community providers to support student learning.

6. Successfully advance the district's framework on Family Engagement.

7. Participate in any School Climate / SEL initiatives as your school sees fit to incorporate and provide family and community feedback and a family and community "lens".

8. Facilitate and teach the Family Institute for Student Success (FISS), school-based family workshops, and other educational and empowering opportunities for families.

9. Plan, coordinate, and implement workshops and engagement events in FEC.

10. Conduct workshops and presentations for parents and school staff on the importance of family engagement and being engaged in school.

11. Encourage staff members within your school to utilize services like interpretation and translation services.

12. Informs families of community resources that could provide needed assistance.

13. Provide families with community referrals in coordination with your Student Services Team members, and administration.

14. Collect Family Engagement DATA - through the Family Engagement Centers, and any other district-based engagement data opportunities
15. Actively participate in all data collection processes including but not limited to inputting information into ASPEN.

16. Be proficient with computer applications like Google Forms, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint and be willing to learn new applications for data analysis and family engagement opportunities.

17. Attend Professional Developments assigned by Wraparound Services Department which may include in district and out of district training.

18. Attend regular school-based staff meetings.

19. If Applicable - meet bi-monthly with your school's Wraparound Coordinator, and monthly with School's Attendance Officer to coordinate family support, response, and communication.

20. Hours of operation for the Family Engagement Center during the academic school year, all school vacations including summertime, will be determined by the Wraparound Services Department including lunch hours and staff meeting times.

21. Coordinate vacation and personal time off with the Wraparound Services department to ensure continuum of Family Engagement Center operation.

22. Meet with District Wraparound Manager, Lead Wraparound Coordinator, and Lead Parent Support Specialist as needed.

23. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
