Community Schools Director

This position is CARES/ARPA funded for three years

Overall Purpose
The job of Community Schools Director is done for the purpose/s of developing, implementing, integrating, aligning, and coordinating the district's community school strategy; partnering to ensure the successful execution and alignment of resources within a community school to achieve CCSD's education goals; creating a high performing Community School partnership wherein students and families feel supported, community members feel connected and successful outcomes emerge; coordinating resources that are dependent on needs present in the CCSD schools; academic, social-emotional, health and others (including options before, during or after-school, during the school year and throughout the summer months); coordinating resources and programs to address key priority areas of attendance, behavior, literacy, math, youth and family engagement; and effectively navigating and interconnecting multiple systems to achieve success for kids and families.

Essential Functions
  • Supports the implementation and expansion of CCSD's community school model
  • Conducts research and ongoing resource mapping and needs assessments to analyze and synthesize data to provide suggestions for programmatic decisions
  • Recruits and coordinates the activities of individuals and organizations willing to offer programs and services at the school to meet the need of student, families, and community members
  • Establishes and implements protocols to manage and maintain quality, deep, and focused partnerships, such that everyone on the school site is working towards common goals for student success and wellness
  • Supports topic-specific committees (student support team, nutrition champions, etc.) through coordination of services and partnerships
  • Engages parents/guardians as full partners in their school and the community at large using a community-organizing framework for the purpose of conducting outreach, working alongside parent leaders to facilitate leadership training for other parents, and supporting parent teams to accomplish goals of the school community
  • Provides supervision and development of family and community engagement staff
  • Engages and collaborates with various departments for the purpose of integrating work, sharing information, and building a culture of unity and belonging
  • Identifies community resources and leverages partnerships for the purpose of bringing needed programs and services into the Community School
  • Organizes and staffs a Community Schools Oversight Committee
  • Coordinates, connects, and supports the people and programs - external and internal - related to student and family support (expanded learning, behavioral health, and family engagement and support, etc.) to each other and to the core mission and priorities of the school and students
  • Implements a menu of needs-driven, high-quality programs and services in adherence with the community school model, including but not limited to early childhood programs, expanded learning and enrichment opportunities, health services, parent/family engagement, adult education, direct material assistance, and interventions targeted to chronically absent students
  • Supports the research/evaluation of the community school by supervising and coordinating the collection of data, and timely submission of reports and responses to other requests for information made by the initiative's leadership
  • Represents the district in various public forums as needed and participates in advocacy activities to promote the initiative
  • Provides collaborative and timely communication to appropriate partners
  • Builds strong relationships with school partners and diverse community stakeholders, and identifies opportunities for them to align services critical to school and community needs
  • Helps to raise funds and in-kind donations to support programming
  • Recruits, trains and helps to manage volunteers in support of community school efforts
  • Aids in the evaluation of the individual Community School programs by collecting data on new partners and the use of their services as well as general school climate indicators, such as school attendance, school safety, and academic achievement
  • Acts as a liaison between community partners and school administration to secure appropriate space, resources, and recruitment of families and students within the school building for the purpose of implementing community school programs
  • Develops MOUs with community partners to outline the scope of work and responsibilities for each partner for the purpose of following district protocols for contracts, background checks, and invoices ensuring that MOUs are in compliance
  • Monitors all budgets associated with Community School support at the school level

Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working with multiple projects, frequent interruptions and changing work priorities; working with detailed information/data; maintaining confidentiality; and facilitating communication between persons with frequently divergent positions

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in education, social science, humanities, sociology, public administration, or related field
Master's degree preferred
Minimum three (3) to five (5) years' related experience working in education
Experience in bilingual-bicultural settings is preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to multicultural populations in ways that values diversity
Prior supervisory/administrative experience preferred

Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.

Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
