: School Based Mental Health Therapist Supervisor
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Supervises: School Based Mental Health Therapists and Referred Students
Job Purpose:
Mental Health Therapist Supervisor will oversee and review School Based Mental Health Therapists' (therapist) work procedures. Coordinating and overseeing school-based mental health and wellness services to ensure the delivery of a clinically sound comprehensive program. Additionally, will perform duties of a therapist. Therapist will perform clinical assessments and provide treatment services to include individual counseling sessions to students using evidence-based modalities, active case management, care coordination, advocacy, and coordination of appropriate district and community service providers/agencies as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and delegate referrals, work, and assignments to therapistsReview therapists' progress notes and provide necessary feedbackEnsure compliance, accuracy, and quality of therapist documentationAssist therapists with complex casesConduct regular and structured meetings with therapists to discuss cases, plans, professional issue, and expectationsCreate policies, procedures, forms, and documentsDevelop programsEnsure compliance with procedures and policiesMentor, instruct, and motivate therapistsModel effective counseling techniques, strategies, and interventionsEngage in and provide professional development for therapistsEnsure therapists comply with licensure requirementsConducting performance evaluationsMaintain collaborative and effective working relationships with therapists, students, families, school staff and administration, district staff and administration, and community mental health partnersCollect data and prepare reports relating to services, deliverables, and evaluationsRefer advanced issues to the Director of Student ServicesPerform screenings, evaluations, clinical assessments and intakes of referred students in school settingProvide short term, solution focused therapy and individual counseling to students referred for assistance with social and emotional issues that present in the school settingAssess individual/family needs and make appropriate referrals as deemed necessary to assist students and familiesAssist in preventing student dropout and improving attendanceServe on district Crisis Response TeamComplete risk assessments tool in the instance of reported suicidal/homicidal ideation present in students, and wellness checks to monitor mental health status as neededDevelop individualized safety plans when safety is a concern or factorCoordinate with appropriate community, facilities, and outside agencies when abuse, neglect, endangerment, or exploitation are reportedServe as a student advocate to coordinate admission for students in need of acute inpatient psychiatric servicesProvide follow-up and implementation of reintegration plans for student returning to school from hospitalization/facility staysAssist with the coordination of mental health trainings for school, district employees, and parents/guardiansParticipate in consultative practices with employee/staff in response to mental health concerns that present during school hours (only on emergency/crisis basis)Consult with parents/staff/administrators to provide thorough explanation of service options within the district and throughout the communityMaintain caseload, records, and documentation for students assessed and/or servedInitiate and maintain open communication with parent/guardians of students on caseloadDevelop individualized treatment plans to address identified problems by setting individualized goals and objectivesParticipate in pertinent meetings regarding assigned students' wellbeing and education (i.e. Individual Educational Plan, 504, Language Services Plan, Disciplinary Hearings, etc.)Understand and follow FERPAMaintain confidentialityRegular, punctual attendance is an essential function of this positionMaintain working assigned days and using sick and personal leave appropriatelyProficiency in Microsoft 365: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.Perform other related duties requested by the Board, superintendent, administrator, director or established district policy
Minimum Requirements:
  • Degree: Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field of practiceLicensure: Current professional license from one of the following:
    • Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) with Mississippi State Board of ExaminersLicensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with Mississippi State Board of ExaminersLicensed Professional Counselors (LPC) with Mississippi State Board of ExaminersLicensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S)Licensed by the Mississippi Board of Psychology
