HIRING SALARY RANGE: $45,124 - $63,415 per year

POSITION SALARY RANGE: $45,124 - $107,091 per year

This is a grant funded position for the next two school years (2021-22 & 2022-23). At the end of that time the position will be evaluated for transition to funding through school budget allocations.

HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR:

Eagle Valley High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Counselor. Candidates should be prepared to work within multiple areas of expected counseling services. Social/emotional services can include personal, crisis counseling, threat/suicide assessments, along with drug/alcohol intervention. There is the academic planning process of ensuring students are engaged learners through the facilitation of their course schedules. Our counselors are also very involved in making College & Career Readiness an integral part of our students educational experience. Counselors with experience in the comprehensive nature of high school counseling will be prepared to offer a wide variety of supports to our students.

EVHS serves the communities of the western part of Eagle County. We will have a total population of nearly 1000 students next year and compete in 4A athletics as a part of CHSAA. Our demographics include 52% Hispanic, 46% White, and 2% Other ethnic populations. SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provides counseling to children in making educational, occupational and life plans that increase the probability of students becoming mature and responsible decision-makers who enjoy a high degree of personal fulfillment. Supervises assigned students and maintains a positive learning environment. Adapts instruction to meet the learning needs of all students resulting in an increased probability of advancing their achievement. Provide assistance to children who are exhibiting symptoms of social, emotional, and/or academic difficulties that interfere with their progress. Maintains positive inter-personal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF CLUSTER GROUPS:
All counselors are members of cluster groups with the intention of growing professionally through teaming with colleagues and by participating in professional development activities and/or plan for their lessons, both collaboratively and independently. Counselors will support cluster groups through personal involvement, through contributing to the professional growth of others and through their support of their school and District culture.

SUPERVISED BY: School Principal/Assistant Principal

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:
  • Supports the approved Eagle County School District RE50J curriculum, mission, school improvement plan and district academic achievement plan.
  • Advocates for students with parents, teachers, school administrators, and other governmental agencies using a working knowledge of human development.
  • Teaches, facilitates and promotes such life skills as problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, goal setting and respect for individual differences.
  • Provides counseling and guidance to students which may include evaluating career interests/choices and post-secondary planning.
  • Provides student orientation for new and/or transfer students in collaboration with feeder schools.
  • Serves as a resource to special education staff including attending child studies and student staffing's when appropriate.
  • Maintains a portfolio of work including an Individual Growth Plan that addresses all elements of the license performance appraisal system.
  • Participates in cluster group meetings focusing on growth goals and action plans.
  • Participates in the development and enhancement of a school-wide culture that promotes professional growth and student learning.
  • Provides support and knowledge that inspires and encourages the professional growth of teachers at the cluster group meeting and school-wide as resources are utilized for the enhancement of student learning.
  • Contributes to the professional development of other teachers including but not limited to modeling the use and application of exemplary practices regarding affective needs of students, peer support with lesson planning and designing consistent with state standards and district goals.
  • Plans learning, including selection of content, instructional strategies, and assessments, appropriate for all learners and aligned with District outcomes and State standards.
  • Teaches to an identified learning objective, presents content accurately, implements a variety of instructional strategies, checks frequently for student understanding, and monitors student progress.
  • Adapts instruction to meet the learning needs of all students, increasing the probability of advancing their achievement.
  • Serves as a resource regarding academic/social and emotional needs of the children including crisis intervention.
  • Promotes and maintains student behavior expectations conducive to learning, and maximizes learning time.
  • Establishes and demonstrates positive human relations with students, parents, other staff members, and the community.
  • Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth that meets District expectations and personal professional goals.
  • Contributes to the decisions made by the District and School regarding school student achievement goals, budget, facility allocation, curriculum revision, and extra-curricular activities.
  • Ensures the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information.
  • Complies with District and School policies and procedures including meeting with assigned students at scheduled location and time and supporting systems for communicating student goals and successes to the community and parents.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must be recommended by supervisor
  • Current authorization or license issued by the State of Colorado indicating s/he is properly endorsed or s/he must meet the qualifications criteria under NCA.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
