FACILITIES ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, Equipment Repair Shop Supervisor, performs journey level duties in installing, maintaining and repairing telecommunication, electrical and electronic systems and controls throughout the District: Incumbent performs related work as required.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Installs, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs the telecommunication, electrical and electronic systems, controls and auxiliary equipment, such as: burglar alarms, fire alarms, analog phone systems, audio systems, intercoms, score boards and related electronic equipment. Must exhibit knowledge with electrical testing equipment, wiring diagrams and schematics to determine cause of faulty equipment; performs routine maintenance and adjustments; performs low voltage electrical work such as installing alarm devices, phones and related components, microphones and speakers, develops and modifies equipment and systems to meet specific requirements; coordinates, assists and oversees work performed by outside contractors; insurance compliance with electrical, building and fire codes and regulations.

Identifies and evaluates new products and equipment for possible use within District sites; prepares recommendations and specifications for new system equipment; maintains inventory of supplies, materials, and tools for all hardware and electronic needs of the District; maintains operational and administrative records.

May be required to physically perform AHERA Class III disturbances to asbestos containing building materials as directed in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform OSHA lead remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. May be required to physically perform mold remediation in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that could provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

1. Four (4-5) years of varied telecommunication, electrical and electronic equipment repair, maintenance and installation experience;

OR

2. Equivalent to graduation from an accredited technical or trade school with major coursework in electronics;

AND

3. Two (2-3) years of verifiable work experience performing varied of complex burglar alarms, fire alarms, analog phone systems, audio systems, intercoms, score boards and related electronic equipment; electronic repairs and fabrication.

Knowledge of: Techniques, procedures and tools used for installation, maintenance and repair of telephone and intercom systems, burglar and fire alarm systems, electrical and electronic control systems; computer controlled equipment such as score boards and access control devices interfacing with security systems; applicable state and local codes and regulations; related occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Skill at: Working independently; basic computer skills; performing journey level activities in installing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing telecommunications, electrical and electronic systems, auxiliary equipment and their related wire and cable systems throughout the District; utilizing test equipment and tools; designing simple electric and electronic circuits; reading, interpreting and following mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, technical manuals, blueprints and specification sheets; observing safety practices; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; performing manual labor; making estimates of materials and labor costs; obtaining project quotes from vendors; preparing and maintaining related operational records and reports; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid Nevada State Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the District. Certification: AHERA 16 hour asbestos training. Asbestos certification may be required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training; Certification: OSHA Lead Action Training. Certification may be required within the first 12 months of employment. Employer will provide training.

Physical Demands: This work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequently climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 60 pounds, pushing balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching, crawling in restricted areas. . Must have the ability to enter all areas of a facility including attics and crawl spaces. To some extent, the frequency or intensity of physical exertion must also be considered.
Must possess or apply for and pass the Nevada State Fire Marshal Certificate of Registration.

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

Additional Job Information :

This is a 40 hour/week, 260 day position.

Eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week receive Social Security benefits, and the Salary Increases, Longevity Bonuses, and Credit Union benefits; eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work 20 to 24.75 hours per week received PERS retirement benefits, and the Salary Increases, Longevity Bonuses and Credit Union benefits listed below; eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work 25 to 27.25 hours per week receive the benefits listed below, with the exception of Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance; eligible employees who are regularly scheduled to work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the District.
Holiday: Eligible employees receive up to eleven (11) paid holidays each year. Vacation: Eligible employees receive up to twenty (20) days of paid vacation each year. Sick Leave: Eligible employees receive up to fifteen (15) days of paid sick leave each year. Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance: Eligible employees may select an insurance plan wherein WCSD contributes 100% of insurance premiums. Eligible employee paid dependent medical insurance is available for an employee's dependents. Insurance Premiums - Summer Months: WCSD contributes 100% of the district paid portion of eligible employee's insurance premiums for employees who are not scheduled to work in the summer. Life Insurance: The District contributes 100 % of employee's life insurance premiums. Salary Increases: In addition to any negotiated increases each year, eligible employees receive salary increases each July, for the first fifteen (15) years of employment. Longevity Bonuses: Eligible employees receive annual bonuses as follows: 12-14 years of employment, $700; 15-17 years of employment, $1, 000; 18 + years of employment, $1, 100. Credit Union: Outstanding benefits are available through the Credit Union.
No State Income Tax. No Social Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or more. Retirement benefit offered is the State of Nevada retirement system, Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), which is one of the best in the country.

PERS ELIGIBLE POSITIONS:

Eligible Employees who select the employer paid salary schedule (Schedule A) will have Washoe County School District (WCSD) contribute 100% of the employee's retirement contributions. Eligible employees who select the employer-employee paid salary schedule (Schedule B) will have a portion of the legislatively designated amount paid by WCSD to PERS for retirement benefits and the employee, in turn, will pay the remaining portion of the legislatively designated amount of his/her salary to PERS. These options are introduced and explained in detail during the New Employee Orientation upon selection for employment.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
