Purpose of Position:
This position provides leadership over all elements of health services delivered across the Madison Metropolitan School District.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Planning District health services and programs. Develop policies, recommend programs and implement sources. Write Grant applications and administer funds. Complete financial and program reports as required and/or requested. Oversee Health Services budget.
  2. Supervising MMSD Staff:
    1. Interviewing, hiring, and onboarding health services and program staff, Lead Nurses and all school-based health services staff, including those who also have central office responsibilities in addition to their school-based role
    2. Evaluating employee work performance.
    3. Assigning tasks and projects, allocating personnel and resources and instructing staff.
  3. Maintaining related legal requirements, including school-based services for Medicaid reimbursement and the district AED program, budget development and administration principles and personnel supervision techniques.
  4. Responding to inquiries, complaints and concerns regarding health services and programs.
  5. Preparing and giving press releases, reports, speeches and other materials regarding health services and programs.
  6. Guiding district response and safety protocol for staff, students and families during local and national health emergencies
  7. Representing the district in community and local agency collaborative efforts aimed at securing resources for students.
  8. Responding to school requests regarding health matters.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week

Salary Information:

Grade 8, $89, 660.25 - $106, 472.25 annually

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Baccalaureate degree in nursing from a university or college school of nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  2. Master?s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice
  3. Valid license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin per Chapter 441, Wisconsin Statutes, and Section N2.04 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code.
  4. Experience as a School Nurse
  5. Current certification in CPR/AED (renewed on annual basis)
  6. Licensure as a advanced nurse prescriber
  7. Certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner
  8. Evidence of and an ability to articulate commitment to equity-focused work and the role that school nursing plays in closing opportunity gaps and eliminating inequitable student outcomes.
  9. Knowledge of and experience with the design and delivery of school nursing, school health services, pediatric nursing and population health.
  10. Evidence of exceptional collaboration skills - ability to hold multiple perspectives and make connections between ideas and concepts.
  11. Ability to effectively engage in cognitive conflict and stay calm in potentially stressful conditions.
  12. Evidence of exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
  13. Evidence of exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  14. Experience with coaching and mentoring practices for adults.
  15. Evidence of a commitment to, and enthusiasm for, lifelong learning and professional/personal growth.
  16. Evidence of groundedness in confidentiality and professional ethics.
  17. Experience in organizational management in a school, community or health care setting
  18. Experience in managing a budget

  2. Work involves frequent deadlines under pressure.
  3. Work requires frequent use of computer programs and data analysis.
  4. Work involves exposure to the general public.

  6. Flexibility in adjusting to continuously changing situations.
  7. Ability to work in a safe and comfortable environment where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little risk of injury.

  3. Ability to exert very light physical effort in sedentary to light work.
  4. Ability to sit, stand, type or use the keyboard for extended periods of time.

  7. Work involves frequent deadlines under pressure.
