Job Summary
The Coordinator, Secondary Career and Technical Education serves to improve the career and college readiness of all CTE students. This position provides positive, professional development opportunities and technical assistance to teachers and other CTE staff to improve program development and the instructional process and student outcomes to ensure the success of students after graduation. The purpose of the CTE coordinator is to increase outcomes among students, addressing both growth and achievement, by implementation of effective instructional practices. The position has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS).

Job Requirements
The following is required:
  1. A bachelor's degree or higher.A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.Three (3) or more years of successful secondary level teaching, grades 6 to 12.

The following are preferred:
  1. A bachelor's degree or higher in curriculum, assessment, career and technical education, education, education leadership, business, or a related field.Recent program experience, preferably with emphasis in career and technical education or related area, group facilitation, change process, effective school practices instructional, program development, curriculum and professional development.Knowledge of career and technical education theory and career counseling principles and methods.Ability to research and organize best practices in Career and Technical Education for program development and improvement.Experience in developing and maintaining curriculum committee work, program evaluation, professional development, staffing, and program procedure.Experience in writing grant applications and working with related processes.Ability to facilitate groups and effectively present information to administrators, the public, and stakeholders in the Anchorage School District.Willingness to accept unique assignments and projects.


Essential Job Functions
  1. Provides technical assistance and support to teachers and other CTE staff to improve the instructional process, program development, document student learning, and improve student outcomes to ensure the success of students in post-secondary education and careers.Provides high quality, sustained, classroom-focused professional development that has a positive and lasting effect on classroom instruction and teacher's performance in the classroom.Engages instructional staff in collaborative reflection and problem solving about the impact of their instructional practices.Provides appropriate professional development to facilitate improvement of all performance indicators.Generates and reports accountability data using current programs.Works with teachers, parents, business/industry, post-secondary institutions, and ASD personnel to improve student learning using participatory processes.Maintains a current knowledge base of Career and Technical Education latest trends, curriculum and professional development, and research.Assists the director and other related staff to develop, promote, and implement career guidance through curriculum and professional development and to continually improve the quality of CTE programs in ASD.Provides technical assistance in implementing process and procedures to gather and analyzing performance data to improve instruction and student performance.Assists the director in developing, implementing, and coordinating needs assessments and evaluations related to professional development, career pathways, and other processes related to career and technical education.Develops promotional materials and presentations to create awareness of career and technical education opportunities and programs for business, parents, students, educators, and the community as asked by the director.Works closely with the director of CTE and middle and high school administrators and district administration to facilitate CTE strategic plan development and implementation.Assists director and CTE secondary coordinator in researching, writing, and overseeing grants related to career and technical education.Participates in the development of related budgets.Works collaboratively with employees.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school and business communities.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
