Position Purpose
To provide an instructional program that will improve students' ability to read all types of fiction and nonfiction texts to allow them to master a core curriculum in Grades 6-8.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities :
- Knowledge of current reading teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as the ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles and reading levels
- Knowledge of and experience teaching to the Common Core Reading Standards
- Ability to use a computer network system and software applications as needed
- Ability to organize and coordinate work
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of students' interventions
Essential Responsibilitie s:
- Develops, administers and monitors reading interventions consistent with school district goals, school goals, and specific objectives based on student need
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates them into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for reading instruction
- Monitors progress of students' skills and learning using Teachers' College assessments and the Fountas and Pinnell system and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students' needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed
- Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, class application and independent practice.
- Reviews and implements modifications and accommodations as necessary
- Communicates student progress with parents consistently
- Serves as part of a schoolwide data team, analyzing both individual and school-wide data to inform instructional decisions
Certification/Licence:
- CT State Certification Reading certification grades K-12
Education:
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
- Master's Degree preferred.
