Job Summary
The director of Assessment and Evaluation supervises Anchorage School District testing and evaluation programs and coordinates the efforts of the department and staff. The director works to ensure that a comprehensive student assessment and data system is in place to support the district's Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and the Anchorage School Board's adopted performance measures. The position reports to the deputy superintendent. This position requires a valid Alaska administrative certificate and has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A master's degree in school administration, educational leadership, or a related field.A valid Alaska type B administrative certificate.A minimum of three years of teaching and two years administrative experience.

The following are preferred:
  1. A valid Alaska teaching certificate.Knowledge of federal laws and Alaska statutes, regulations, and rules governing surveys, evaluation, research, assessment, ESEA, and FERPA as well as knowledge on national trends and developments in the field of curriculum, assessment, and instruction.Knowledge of research, assessment, and evaluation methodologies.Ability to manage multiple projects on different time tracks at one time.Ability to facilitate group work, resolve conflicts, and perform complex problem solving.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Directs and oversees the operation of ASD's Assessment and Evaluation Department.Supervises district-wide testing and program evaluation.Collaborates with district professionals and departments to develop and support a system of assessments that informs the district's Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.Provides leadership in developing sound assessment practices and improving data literacy within the district.Collaborates with all departments to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data reported to district's external partners or used internally for decision making and student support.Collaborates with key partners to design assessment reporting systems that are comprehensive and targeted on district priorities.Supports district departments and professionals in the design of effective program evaluation systems and protocols.Ensures all federal, state, and local statues, regulations, and requirements are followed in the district's assessment practices and reporting.Establishes and maintains positive communication and supportive working relationships with Alaska Department of Education & Early Development and the district's other external partners.Develops and monitors the department's budget.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
