In the Empowerment Zone, we are a team passionate and focused on making real transformation in our schools on the West Side of South Bend, Indiana. We are working in service to our students; 41% who are African-American/Black, 39% who are Latino, and 78% who receive free/reduced lunch. As the Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring that the Empowerment Zone is positioned to make data-informed decisions that improve the experience and outcomes of students and families in the Empowerment Zone. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director of Finance and Operations HOURS: 8am-5pm, M-F; some evening and weekend hours required COMPENSATION: $50,000 - $65,000 Annually AVAILABLE: May 2021 DUTIES: This position is critical to the success of our schools. This person will be expected to engage in three core functions with responsibilities that include but are not limited to: Analyze Data and Disseminate Insights (50%) ● Collect data aligned to long term and short term goals of the Empowerment Zone and individual schools. ● Analyze qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources. ● Create bi-weekly and monthly reports/memos that aggregate data across multiple sources and summarize key trends/insights that reflect progress toward the Empowerment Zone’s aim of improving student achievement by centering the student and family experience. ● Propose additional research questions and analytics that drive insight and lead to actionable changes. Create and Maintain Data Dashboard (40%) ● Review SBEZ’s data system and needs, from setup and collection to analysis and visualization. 1● Identify improvements and best practices to the Empowerment Zone’s data collection, based on how other similar organizations meet data infrastructure needs. ● Identify and present possible data dashboard and visualization tool designs that prioritize ease of use and the ability to integrate multiple data sources. ● Develop the dashboard and back-end data system, showing prototypes and updates on a regular basis to ensure alignment. ● Regularly maintain and update data sets required for the data dashboard. ● Build a data dashboard manual that memorializes how to use and access the dashboard and train the SBEZ team on its use. Provide Support for Robust Data Use (10%) ● Provide training to end data users (e.g. principals, school teams, Empowerment Zone staff) on how to interpret and make meaning of data REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ● Strong knowledge of different analytical tools including Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, Tableau, and PowerSchool ● Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy ● Experience in handling large data sets and databases ● Embrace professional learning and growth opportunities and contribute to a healthy team/school culture grounded in collaboration, high expectations, and support ● Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly to all audiences ● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of leaders ● Ability to organize workload, set priorities, and adapt quickly to changing priorities ● Ability to perform high-quality work under pressure ● Enjoys solving problems/navigating challenges ● Belief and alignment with the Empowerment Zone’s core beliefs and philosophy, including the belief that every child can excel academically and that every family deserves partnership and respect. ● Energetic, entrepreneurial and self-motivated with the judgment, grace, focus, resilience, and professional skills required to succeed in a fast-paced, complex and ambiguous environment ● Examine their own biases and guard against unexamined biases that filter into harmful practices, low expectations for students, and a deficit view of students and families. ● Engage in Empowerment Zone-wide conversations and reflections about race, class, and education DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (NOT REQUIRED) ● Advanced degree in mathematics, computer science, statistics, or economics preferred.In the Empowerment Zone, we are a team passionate and focused on making real transformation in our schools on the West Side of South Bend, Indiana.
