As the Director of Professional Learning & Curriculum, you will operate as a critical leader on the South Bend Empowerment Zone Team. From this post, you will ensure that Empowerment Zone staff receive high-quality, meaningful, and timely professional learning that enables the following: 1) Advance teaching and learning, advancing equity and justice for all of our students, with a special focus on children with special needs/receiving special education services and children learning English as a language. You will ensure that all of our staff understand that we all own the outcomes of all of our children. You will provide our staff with the foundational awareness/understanding, and skill development to set them up for success to meet the needs of all of our children. Your will develop a strategy that balances workshop learning, grade level collaboration support, and job-embedded professional learning with the instructional coach team 2) Ensure that tight systems are developed around professional learning and curriculum, including systems that enable us to get real-time feedback on things that are going well, and things that need to be improved. Rapid integration of this feedback so staff feel the improvements quickly, will be critical to success in this role. 3) Ensure that all staff have everything they need as it relates to our adopted curricula. Materials, professional learning and support to use the curriculum, and instructional strategies to maximize the curricula. In addition to the three core bodies of work, you will oversee other critical initiatives supporting our five schools (Coquillard, Harrison, Navarre, Warren, and Wilson) to achieve their goal of transforming the educational experience and outcomes for thousands of students across the Empowerment Zone. Strong ownership of process and outcomes will be critical to success in this role. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Empowerment Zone Chief HOURS: 8am-5pm, M-F; some evening and weekend hours required COMPENSATION: $60,000-$85,000 Annually AVAILABLE: May 2021 DUTIES: This position is critical to the success of our schools. This person will be expected to engage in three core functions with responsibilities that include but are not limited to: Professional Learning: (50%)● Assist in design, planning, developing, and execution of high-quality professional learning experiences that leave staff feeling inspired, equipped, and clear on the “how” ● Oversee data compilation and analysis for use in professional learning experience design, planning, developing, and execution ● Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure that professional learning experiences are coherent and meaningful to staff Curriculum (20%) ● Ensure that every teacher and instructional support staff member has what they need with curricular materials and a system exists for onboarding new staff with a curricular overview and orientation ● Ensure that clarity and direction is provided for technical uses of the curriculum (how to log in to curricular supports, where to access various materials/resources, etc.) ● Engage in regular progress-monitoring of strategy and goals, and course correct as needed Job-Embedded Instructional Support (30%) ● Ensure that there are tight systems in place for instructional support and job-embedded professional learning structures are in place for instructional and leadership staff ● Support and direct the capacity of team members to ensure that each school has what it needs as it relates to instructional support and job-embedded professional learning REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ● Demonstrated track record of designing and providing high-quality professional learning experiences to staff ● Strong knowledge base and integration of adult principles of learning and adult development ● Exceptional, disciplined strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, must be able to simultaneously hold quantitative and qualitative inputs to support decision-making and problem-solving ● Ability to execute with excellence; excellent project management skills and follow through ● High expectations for self and others, and a willingness to hold self and others accountable to these expectations ● Superior facilitation, writing, communication and presentation skills. ● Belief and alignment with Zone’s core beliefs and philosophy, including the belief that every child can excel academically and that every family deserves partnership and respect. ● Embrace professional learning and growth opportunities and contribute to a healthy team/school culture grounded in collaboration, high expectations, and support. ● Examine their own biases and guard against unexamined biases that filter into harmful practices, low expectations for students, and a deficit view of students and families. ● Engage in Empowerment Zone-wide conversations and reflections about race, class, and educationIf you are interested in applying for this position, please email an updated resume and tailored cover letter outlining what strengths you would bring to the position, to Dr. Cheryl Camacho at ccamacho@sbez.org.
