The Opportunity Interim Director of Academic Impact (21-22)
Lighthouse Community Public Schools is seeking a strategic and equity-focused instructional leader who is rooted in the LCPS core values of community, love, social justice, integrity, and agency, to join a tenacious, innovative, mission-aligned team and work with our Academic Team and school leaders at the middle grades to lead out of the COVID-19 pandemic and dramatically increase student outcomes over the next two years with a particular focus on Lodestar's upcoming charter renewal. The Interim Director of Academic Impact will be a member of the LCPS Academic team, which sets the academic direction for schools and instructional leaders and will have a particular focus on supporting the assessment, progress monitoring, and academic performance of the schools and school leaders they are assigned to work most closely with in the middle grades.

THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Interim Director of Academic Impact will:

Assessment & Testing
  • Support implementation of Interim Assessments and the development of curriculum-embedded assessments in support of increased student outcomes coming out of the COVID 19 pandemic
  • Monitor and track student growth and development across schools at their grade band, with a particular focus on addressing the students who have been challenged by our learning modalities in distance learning coming out of the pandemic.
  • Guide and support leaders in the implementation of regular cycles of student data analysis and tracking student growth towards mastery of standards and document the strategies that are working to address unfinished learning.
  • Participate in weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress monitoring with School Leaders and Leadership Teams
  • Support principals in the administration and analysis of assessments used across the Family of Schools, including NWEA MAP, Interim Assessments from the Achievement Network, CAASPP, ELPAC, and internal Interim Assessments and Surveys, in collaboration with the Manager of Student Data Systems and Analytics


Curriculum
  • Support systems for the selection, development, and curation of curricular resources, ensuring all students have access to a high-quality curriculum, focusing on alignment of key standards-based instruction to address unfinished learning and mastery of grade-level standards.
  • Support leaders and teams in understanding, designing, refining, and internalizing core instructional resources, as well as instructional and social-emotional learning strategies aligned to meet the needs of our most vulnerable students.
  • Support and coach leaders during LCPS' teacher evaluation, growth, and development system


Instruction & Instructional Coaching
  • Increase the impact of instructional coaching using our adopted coaching model
  • Observe and co-observe classroom instruction with the Principal, Assistant Principal, Teacher Leaders, or other Instructional Leaders
  • Observe one-on-one meetings with Principals, Assistant Principals, or other Instructional Leaders in order to provide feedback and coaching.
  • Mentor, observe and support a caseload of new teachers pursuing California clear teaching credentials through the completion of the Reach TICC program or alternative certification.


Professional Learning
  • Design, facilitate, and deliver professional development across the family of schools on LCPS Instructional Stances, EL's Core Practices, and other academic focal areas aligned to addressing unfinished learning and post-pandemic instructional strategies
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the professional learning scope and sequence, with a focus on teacher strategies for meeting the needs of our most vulnerable students (Special Education, ELD, Housing insecure) coming out of the pandemic.
  • Facilitate Instructional Rounds and Learning walks with organizational leaders to assess the quality of learning and teaching


Progress Monitoring & Compliance
  • Build partnerships within schools and gather data in order to understand school needs and determine the highest leverage actions to move them forward
  • Support to CAO, Principals, and Development staff in the creation of, implementation of, and compliance with internal and external accountability measures, such as LCAP, WASC accreditation, charter renewal, reports to OUSD, federal funding, and grant reporting as needed and appropriate

Additional Duties
  • Act as a liaison between schools and the CAO and other Functional Leaders at Shared Services
  • Engage in quarterly talent reviews with each Principal, the Director of Talent, and the CAO
  • Support with school hiring processes to meet hiring goals and ensure high-quality staffing
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CAO

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills and Attributes
  • Excellent project management and execution skills;
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and work independently;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Detailed-oriented, with strong follow-through skills;
  • Excellent computer skills, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to juggle competing priorities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building with students, parents, colleagues, and community members;
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands & external pressures;
  • Ability to unpack the various aspects of one's identity and implicit biases to manage, and work across lines of difference


REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 3+ years of successful leadership experience coaching and growing leaders across a K-8 setting, preferably with low-income students and families
  • At least 5+ years of successful, relevant elementary and/or middle school teaching experience
  • Track record in leading high performing teams and adult learning at a school with similar demographics in urban communities
  • Deep knowledge of CCSS, NGSS, and literacy development instructional best practices, curriculum development, and assessment
  • Bachelors of Arts and appropriate California clear teaching credential, required
  • Commitment to creating a work environment that values and embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Highly Preferred
    • Masters of Arts and California administrative credential
    • School-based instructional leadership experience (Principal or AP) or district-level Director experience
    • Experience with EL Education
    • Spanish fluency
    • California charter school experience


    TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION

    This is a 12-month, full-time salaried exempt position that is grant-funded for the 21-22 and 22-23SYs. Future extensions of this role will be dependent on additional funding being secured. LCPS offers a competitive compensation package with nearly 7 weeks of vacation and holidays, generous health and retirement benefits, and a salary commensurate with experience. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

    SUPERVISION

    This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer.
