Lake Forest Community High School is seeking a Reading Teacher.

Description: The Reading teacher is responsible for supporting student growth and development in Reading and as articulated in individualized student goals, learning plans, learning benchmarks. The Reading teacher works to support students in reaching their fullest potential through the acquisition of reading and literacy skills within a tiered Reading Program.

Essential Duties:
  • Provide instruction to students utilizing the District's approved and evolving curriculum with appropriate modifications and accommodations, as needed.Provide classroom (individualized and group) reading instruction focused on supporting reading growth, comprehension, and progress towards reading goals for all students.Possess a strong command of reading and writing instructional skills, strategies, and techniques for supporting a wide-range of learners.Communicate and demonstrate a love and passion for reading and assists students with making connections between texts, self, and the world around them.Partner with the Reading Program Coordinator, Reading teachers, and LFHS faculty/staff to support students in utilizing and applying acquired reading skills in courses across all content areas.Create lesson plans and implement instructional practices that reflect an accurate understanding of the prerequisite relationships among topics and concepts and which reflect familiarity with a wide range of effective pedagogical approaches related to the discipline.Coordinate and ensure students receive the appropriate modifications and accommodations identified in a students learning plan, IEP, 504 plan, or other goal-oriented plans.Implement research based practices and implements a variety of instructional practices in order to teach students instructional, functional, community based instruction and vocational skills.Progress monitor and use data collection tools that indicate reading progress, proficiency, and comprehension.Provide performance feedback in a timely fashion using data derived from assessments, observations and grades (performance compared to peers, observable behaviors/habits, common assessment data, relationships with teachers/peers, etc).Use a learning management tool (e.g. Schoology) in the classroom to help students understand and organize course expectations and requirements.Prepare lesson plans for teaching assistants in the classroom and instruct them on how to meet various student needs.Meet with students to monitor progress, problem solve, and to provide assistance.Support students who are in crisis with collaboration with the related service staff members, faculty and administration.Communicate with parents regarding matters related to the student performance in the classroom and classroom expectations.Co-plan with Reading Program faculty and staff and identify strategies to foster student growth.Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth through reflection and collaboration.Participate in regularly scheduled professional development as assigned.Display high standards of honesty, integrity and confidentiality in interaction with colleagues, students and the public.Demonstrate dependable attendance, punctuality and work ethic.Engages in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Reading endorsement requiredProficient use of Microsoft Office suite, Google Apps for Education and school-based processing and management systemsAbility to communicate clearly- written and verballyAbility to communicate effectively and clearly with students, parents, faculty, staff and administrationKnowledge of instructional best practices
