Position Summary:

The classroom counselor is committed to supporting students with emotional disabilities and other health impairments gain academic and behavioral success in the special education and general education setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Ability to implement small group academic supports
    • Ability to teach and reinforce appropriate positive behaviors
    • Ability to de-escalate and manage student in crisis
    • Ability to collaborate with general and special education teachers to implement Positive Behavior Supports for student with Emotional Support needs
    • Ability to work as a team member to create and reinforce a healthy classroom culture for staff and students.
    • Completing other identified tasks


Qualifications:
    • Behavioral management knowledge
    • Experience working with students in an educational setting
    • Successful experience working with student with Emotional Support needs (preferred)
    • Detail-oriented and committed to collect specified behavioral data to support student programming
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to work well as a member of a classroom and school team
    • Results-oriented individual â€" a flexible thinker willing to do â€whatever it takes.â€
    • Belief in the Mastery Charter School mission and instructional model
    • Open to continuously develop behavioral management skills through professional development


Education and Experience:
    • Associate’s Degree, or at least 48 college credits, required; or proof of passed PAPA Exam
    • Experience working with adolescents, school-setting experience preferred
    • Experience working with students receiving special education services


Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as maneuvering in classrooms and physically supporting students in the classroom; Standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, speak loudly and clearly, seeing and hearing things both near and far away, stooping, kneeling, fine finger and hand manipulation in use of a computer, chalkboard, dry erase board or projector.
