Lake Forest School District 67 is seeking a full-time Advanced Learning Specialist at Sheridan Elementary School for Grades 3 and 4.

Description: Advanced Learning Specialists collaborate with teachers on the development, implementation, and evaluation of differentiated learning opportunities that are challenging, individualized, and designed to meet the needs of highly advanced learners. The Advanced Learning Specialists serve as a resource for content-area teachers and may also work directly with students who consistently exhibit high-level thought processes (e.g., analytical, abstract, critical thinking skills) and highly exceptional performance. Advanced Learning Specialists can work across core content areas, with particular focus on reading, writing, and mathematics. Services may be expanded to include science and social studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supports teachers in developing their capacity to differentiate for advanced learning in the general education setting through:
  • Designing and implementing learning activities that promote high-end challenge and student driven processesSelecting, modeling, and implementing pedagogical strategies that are associated with advanced learning in various subject areas (e.g., workshop practices, student-led questioning, visible thinking practices, engaging with complex texts, etc.)Co-planning and co-teaching, as well as providing professional learning opportunities, throughout the year in the area of differentiation and advanced learning

Studies and disseminates best practices in current research connected to advanced learning and differentiation through:
  • Participating in team and department meetings, CII and other professional learning opportunities as a learning partner to bring current learning trends and practices to the classroom teacherAttending specific professional conferences and other learning experiences as needed to stay current and expand subject matter expertise

Qualifications:
  • Current Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Self-Contained General Education endorsementOne or more of the following is strongly preferred:
    • Successful completion of the IL. State Board of Education Gifted Education SeminarSuccessful completion of the National Evaluation Series (NES) Gifted Education TestGifted Education Teacher Endorsement or Gifted Education Specialist certificate
    A minimum of three years of successful teaching that included meeting the needs of highly advanced learners
