Mental Health and Wellness Skills Trainer

Salary: $20.89 per hour (Note: this is the 2020-21 salary schedule, 2021-22 TBD)
Notes: Multiple positions are available. There may be a need for additonal days to be worked throughout the summer. This position is open until filled with earliest review of applications on April 27, 2021.

PURPOSE: This position will be working with innovative, trauma informed, and community connected models of care to support students across the needs spectrum. Assist licensed staff with providing skills training and coaching for youth and adults.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide skills training and coaching for youth and adults. Coaching and training will focus on problem solving, educational participation, emotional regulation, and prosocial skills. Skills training will occur in both individual, group and family context.Complete treatment goals as prescribed by the Mental Health Therapist. Work closely to coordinate services and follow directions of building mental health therapist.Complete documentation following clinical requirements under the mental health therapists guidance for client recordsProvide supports both in the school and community environments (homes, parks, community destinations, etc.) based on individual youth and family need.Works in close consultation with building administrators, school counselors, social workers, and mental health therapists to identify students' needs and respond with a variety of interventions.Works to provide rapid response to identified needs on a daily basis.Provides information to classroom teachers, paraprofessionals and other school employees to fully support students with disabilities in general education activities, both instructional and non-instructional.Provides staff training in crisis prevention strategies and personal safety, under the direction of licensed staff.Maintains high standards and expectations for students in a manner that encourages independent learning and personal growth.Assists with gathering information and data related the student evaluations of behavior, mental health, and education plans.Works as a team member with licensed specialists and under the direction of a building mental health therapist.Standard Red Cross First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.Provides other related services as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field.Minimum of one year of work experience in mental health, education or social service field.Experience in crisis de-escalation and management.Experience providing professional supports to a broad variety of populations and backgrounds.Ability to shift between the social demands of multiple settings in a smooth and professional manner.Demonstrate understanding of relationships between communication, behavior, and programmatic structures.Ability to obtain and utilize the latest research information and teaching techniques in the field of behavior support.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Ability to read and understand medical and education documentation.Ability to collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize, and utilize information and records efficiently.Ability to work with a team and independently.Ability to understand and implement the school/program's student discipline policy and manage student behavior effectively.Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with individuals and groups of all ages and backgrounds.Demonstrated ability to develop, organize and carry out work assignments, and to plan and direct the work of students and others associated with the program.Ability to effectively perform multiple, simultaneous tasks with numerous interruptions.Proficient in use of classroom/program equipment and technology.Ability to obtain specialized training as required.Ability to travel among district facilities as needed; if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.

  • Frequent or prolonged standing, sitting and walking.Crouching to work with younger students.Possibly moderate to high noise level.Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in conversations/meetings.Requires accurate perceiving of sound.Requires handling and working with variety of materials and objects.Requires close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Work may occasionally involve lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds, possibly up to 50 pounds.Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student injury or illness.Possible exposure to bodily harm due to student behaviors.Will be required to be trained in physical intervention with students who are in mental health crisis and may be required to engage in clinically indicated physical intervention.Occasionally drive between schools.

  • This position is primarily performed indoors in school buildings, although some outdoor instruction and supervision are required.This position involves working in close proximity to groups of children and adults.The noise level in the work environment could be usually low to occasionally moderate.
