New Visions AIM Charter High School I and New Visions AIM Charter High School II are small, close-knit, family-oriented communities where dedicated staff members work to ensure that over-age, under-credited students graduate from high school, thoroughly prepared to excel academically, professionally, and personally. Whether students have previously struggled in school or are at risk of dropping out, the schools provide the supports, experiences, and opportunities to help them excel academically and graduate high school.

The Associate Director, AIM School Support will be the primary support person for the AIMs within the New Visions Charter Management Organization (CMO). They will facilitate regular review cycles monitoring progress towards authorizer and school goals, the effectiveness of instructional programs, and work with school leaders to identify high impact program elements, as well as develop plans for improvement. In addition, the Associate Director will co-develop, implement and monitor a multi-year strategic plan aligned to the AIM's Key Design Elements.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Meet regularly with school based teams at the two transfer charter high schools to:
  • Work with school leaders to monitor their progress towards authorizer and school goals, evaluate effectiveness of instructional programs, identify high impact program elements and co-create plans for improvement; accomplished through defined cycles of coaching with the goal of supporting the schools in identifying program elements that will meet the needs of opportunity youth, developing systems to understand their effectiveness, and provide ongoing coaching to review progress
  • Co-develop, implement and monitor a multi-year strategic plan aligned to the charter school's Key Design Elements using SUNY's Active Ingredients project to ground the work, including the development of an alternative programming model which includes day and evening classes and certificate bearing courses, identification and implementation of a formative assessment system aligned to standards, and support with monitoring the efficacy of external partnerships designed to support student achievement.
  • Liaise between schools and authorizers to provide updates and get feedback
  • Participate in local and national conferences and networking opportunities aligned to the needs of the AIMs and the population they serve, including building connections with district NVPS-affiliated transfer schools

Work with other New Visions staff to:
  • Serve as the primary point person between the AIMs and New Visions support, including fostering the development of systems that deeply connect the student support and instructional teams, building on external partnerships, facilitating meetings with key stakeholders across the organization, providing regular updates to all stakeholders, managing next steps across multiple projects, representing the interests of the AIMs in internal meetings, serving as the primary point person for the AIM Principals and supporting the Superintendent with understanding overall progress
  • Develop a method for tracking key performance metrics across key bodies of support provided to the AIMs and a structure for evaluating the data to identify high impact supports and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent's team to attend Board meetings and represent the progress of the AIMs to the Board members
  • Coordinate supports for the AIMs by working with other New Visions staff members to create support plans with the schools
  • Facilitate planning meetings with cross school and cross network staff on a regular basis to support with alignment and strategic planning
  • Working with other New Visions staff to leverage current New Visions resources to provide professional learning opportunities aligned to the school's strategic plan

Education and Experience:
  • Masters-level degree
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in public education, preferably urban schools and secondary level
  • School Building Leader certification or comparable leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Prior experience working opportunity youth, either in or with transfer schools as Community Based Organization preferred

Required Skill Sets and Knowledge Base:
  • Expert knowledge in systems thinking, strategy development, and school leadership practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work with data systems to inform instructional practices
  • Leadership in providing professional development and coaching support to educators, including school leaders
  • Excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal skills including strong facilitation skills;
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with school and network level staff
