JOB GOAL:

To assist the Library Media Specialist/Technology Integration Specialist in operating and implementing the educational objectives of the learning center. To assist classroom teachers and the Library Media Specialist in supervising students and helping students locate library resources.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrate successful completion of a college degree or two (2) years of course requirement by providing transcripts or a signed release and receipt of verification from the school(s), or
  • Successfully complete an online assessment for highly qualified paraeducators
  • Proficient in recent technology applications, including productivity tools (e.g. Word, PP, Publisher) and thinking tools (e.g. Inspiration, communication, collaboration tools)
  • Familiarity in the operation of school media and equipment, including computers, projectors, and document cameras


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Assist the Library Media Specialist in the operation of the learning center.
  • Assist Library Media Specialist in accurate management of the circulation, cataloging, and maintenance of materials and learning center equipment, including using the library automation system as needed.
  • Remain current in the operation of new learning center media and equipment.
  • Assist students, staff, and community members in accessing learning center print and technology-based resources.
  • Work with students of various educational levels and abilities and diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Help maintain appropriate student behavior in the learning center.
  • Operate the library automation system and prepare reports, complete paperwork, and order materials as needed.
  • Responsible for the circulation and cataloging operations using the library automation system.
  • Responsible for processing, circulation and maintaining materials and learning center equipment, as well as assisting the Library Media Specialist with ordering of new material.
  • Sort and re-shelve books, periodicals, and other library/media center materials using the Dewey Decimal system, this includes, but is not limited to, the ability to lift, carry, reach, push, pull and bend.
  • Serve as substitutes for library media specialist for absent librarian media specialist.
  • Help train and supervise library volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, in accordance with Federal Law (FERPA).


QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications include but not limited to: high school diploma plus at least 2 years additional education; minimum of two years experience in education or related field; ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents and school staff.

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the Burlington School District.

Health and life insurance benefits are available for this position after a period of 45 working days. Dental benefits available after 1 full working year.
