Special Education District Program Facilitator - Professional Instruction Center - Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

FUNCTION

This position is aligned with the Professional Instruction Center and will lead the development of the Mind-set, practices, resources and Instructional Interventions in the area of SEL for the Special Education Department. Some essential functions of this work will include:
  • Collaboration with Teaching and Learning and PSWE to build collaborative learning on topics related to SEL,
  • Explore and recommend SEL interventions that enhance core instruction,
  • Make recommendations that enhance Professional Learning in the area of SEL and
  • Support teachers with technical assistance and intervention support,

The person in this position will work closely with the Literacy and Math DPF's, Teaching & Learning, PWSE and EL to support teachers and students from Early Childhood to age 21.

Qualified candidates should advocate for student learning, convey innovative ideas to school teams, provide strong interpersonal communication skills, utilize problem solving skills effectively, and guide teams towards equitable, evidence based instructional practices.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred
Valid MN special education license and demonstrated experience in the adoption and implementation of SEL based supports.
All SPED licensed staff and related service providers are eligible to apply.
Prefer 5 years of successful experience in an urban, multicultural educational setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Engage in cross-departmental collaboration to create seamless transition between Core, tiered interventions and Specialized Instruction.
  • Continue development of common course descriptions, scope and sequence, syllabus and learning targets for continuity of coursework across MPS secondary schools
  • Identify and make recommendations of Research, recommend, and model the implementation of evidence based instructional practices, with an intense focus on SEL
  • innovative Evidence Based Practices EC to 21
  • Expand and refine the Instructional Model of instruction in the area of SEL reflected on the PIC website
  • Develop and lead professional development to a range of school members; both general education and special education staff
  • Understand and develop special education school-wide service delivery models and programming
  • Provide coaching to teachers on how to monitor progress and how to plan instruction based on student data that accelerates achievement of special education students
  • Research, recommend, and model how to implement academic, functional and social emotional evidence based practices to improve student outcomes within a school community
  • Provide guidance to schools regarding instructional models that help schools and special education teams provide services in all federal settings
  • Guide schools to develop behavior and/or academic interventions for students


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS
School environment; may involve lifting up to 40 pounds; and the ability to sit, walk, and/or stand for extended periods of time, both indoors and outdoors.
