PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for providing health service in the school(s) according to established guidelines. Provides leadership and support to ensure that all school nurses, unlicensed clinical assistants, and unlicensed assistive personnel are appropriately trained to provide optimum health services for all students; Provides health services to all students.

REPORTS TO: Director, Risk Management/District Nurse Administrator
SALARY SCHEDULE: G-16
WORK DAYS: 200

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Education Level: Graduation from an accredited nursing program at the associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree level
Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • Valid nursing license
  • CPR, and First Aid Certification required
  • Valid Georgia Driver's License
  • Five or more years of experience in school or public health
  • Comprehensive knowledge of student health programs and issues
  • Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the public, and work with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provides education and direction necessary for the coordination of student health services.
  2. Complies with directions of the lead nurse regarding nursing practices.
  3. Models fair leadership and non-discriminatory practices through a culturally competent care delivery process.
  4. Conducts quality improvement reviews and provides site recommendations for a healthy and safe school environment.
  5. Serves as a consultant and liaison between school staff, school nurses, unlicensed assistive personnel, parents, students, community partners and physicians regarding health issues.
  6. Provides nurse orientation to include training on PowerSchool, Medicaid billing, and clinic setup.
  7. Provides policy, guidance and oversight to team members and substitute nurses for documentation requirements, data collection, screening procedures, and required audits.
  8. Equips team members with the necessary training to enroll and work within the Georgia Registry of Immunization portal.
  9. Conducts initial and annual substitute nurse training to ensure best practice guidelines are followed.
  10. Engages team members in leadership activities that foster nursing development, enhanced communication, advancement of practice and professional growth.
  11. Initiates and coordinates District training efforts (CPR/First Aid, Epi for Schools, Narcan, Stop the Bleed) and provides debriefing following any onsite emergency.
  12. Supervises nursing activities and mediates personnel if needed.
  13. Supports team members by assisting in mass screenings and other site-based wellness activities (biometric screenings, flu clinics, blood drives, mobile immunization clinics)
  14. Assumes responsibility for personal continuing education and professional development.
  15. Secures and maintains first aid and CPR (preferably instructor) certification.
  16. Maintains the district school nurse website to reflect accurate and aggregate data.
  17. Cultivates stakeholder involvement through community-based training and volunteer efforts.
  18. Represents SCCPSS nurses during media events, personnel interviews, and multidisciplinary activities.
  19. Guides budget management efforts for received grants and donations (hygiene grant, Project Period, Asthma Coalition)
  20. Leads District wide efforts to encourage organizational awareness and understanding of best practice protocols for responding to global crisis events.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered "at will." Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade 16 and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. The work calendar will be the 200 days classified calendar (+ 10 floating days).
