Essex Westford School District is seeking a skilled professional to fill a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) position beginning in the 2021-2022 school year. The BCBA will train and supervise interventionists who implement ABA programs for students with behaviors that interfere with learning. The BCBA will be responsible for the development of discrete trial programs, training associated with implementing these programs, and data collection to measure progress. The BCBA will also assist in the development of behavior intervention plan and collaborate on the development of individual education plans that are based on a variety of assessments.

At EWSD, the BCBA provides leadership, analysis, and support in the area of special education Behavior Analysis. Additionally, this role promotes quality and compliance of programs and services to improve student achievement, facilitates the design of quality services for students with autism or other behavior challenges by working with parents, teachers, administrators, staff and students and provides supervision hours to other Behavior Specialists seeking BCBA using the approved sequence designed and monitored through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB®).

Additional job duties and responsibilities include:
  • Provides consultation and intervention regarding behavior management, effective education and assessment of behavioral needs of students with and without disabilities.
  • Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments, or assists in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments
  • Designs, implements and monitors behavior intervention plans.
  • Develops or assists in the development of Behavior Improvement Plans
  • Serves as member of the IEP team for students with behavioral concerns.
  • Prepares written reports as needed by district to outside psychiatric professionals/community agencies re: behavioral concerns of identified special education students.
  • Consults with school staff working with student with behavioral needs on behavior management techniques and information on specific student needs.
  • Provides consultation to parents regarding child development and behavior management techniques.
  • Conducts professional development on training behavior management, progress monitoring, data collection techniques, social skills or other targeted district needs.
  • Familiarizes self with most recent research/practice in applied behavior analysis.
  • Provides social skill lessons and materials to teachers, student groups or individual student as needed.
  • Designs, implement, and monitor behavior programs for students.
  • Oversees the implementation of behavior programs by others.
  • Conducts experimental evaluations of interventions.
  • Supervises and directs the work of assigned Interventionists
  • Serves as a resource person for parents and staff
  • Assist teachers in designing appropriate instructional programs and environmental settings
  • Assists teachers in developing and planning individual modifications for students develops, conducts, or assists with professional learning sessions.
  • Serves as a certified instructor for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) and conducts trainings as needed
  • Assists department with design of school-wide Positive Behavior Support plan (behavioral RtI)
  • Assists teachers in the development of systems to track and analyze data
  • Models instruction demonstrating research proven techniques
  • Conducts parent training sessions as needed
  • Oversee the development and planning for specific summer programs for identified students
  • Makes recommendations about the selection and purchase of instructional materials
  • Keeps informed of, and complies with Federal, state, district regulations
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
  • Master's degree in Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education or related field
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification (BCBA®)
  • VT Educator license with a Special Educator or School Psychologist desirable
  • Experience working with children/adolescents with a variety of psychiatric and/or behavioral disorders, including those on the autism spectrum.
  • Experience in providing behavior analytic interventions and assessments
  • Proven leadership in multidisciplinary teaming and overall employee management required.
  • Ideal applicants will have knowledge and experience working with and in both education and mental health.
  • Candidates must be adept in the development of behavioral modification planning and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to demonstrate behavior change through continuous progress monitoring is essential.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).

  • Knowledge of and experience with various therapeutic intervention methods.

  • Understanding of behavioral principles as they apply to developing individualized education and behavior plans for students with autism spectrum disorder and students with psychiatric and/or behavioral disorders.
  • Demonstrates competence in developing data collection systems that can be implemented in the classroom setting
  • Possesses the ability to conduct functional behavioral assessments and design, implement and monitor behavior intervention plans.
  • Understands State and Federal regulations relative to behavioral requirements and students with disabilities.

For column placement on the salary schedule we consider credits earned after the date of your degree (bachelor's or master's) in which you received a grade of B or better. For step placement, we grant one step for every year of previous public school teaching experience for the first five years, then one step for every two years of public school teaching experience thereafter. We also consider directly related industry experience (e.g., private school, college) by granting one step for every two years of full-time experience in most cases.
