POSITION TITLE: Principal

LOCATION: Greenbay Early Childhood Center

REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent

North Chicago School District 187 is seeking a principal for Green Bay School which serves the families of Naval Station Great Lakes and other nearby neighborhoods. As a school that serves military families, a school leader with an understanding of the unique needs of the military child is essential. Strong academic performance is a priority for the North Chicago community. QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Licensure:
    1. Current valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with proper administrative endorsement(s)
  2. Education:
    1. Required - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field.
    2. Required - Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Education Leadership or related field.
  3. Experience:
    1. Required - Two (2) years of successful teaching experience working with a diverse student population.
    2. Required - Two (2) years of successful administrative experience.
    3. Preferred - Five (5) years of prior successful teaching experience working with a diverse student population in an urban school setting.
    4. Preferred - Five (5) years of prior successful administrative experience.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

To be successful as a leader at Green Bay School, the next principal will need to be able to:
  • Support Common Core aligned instructional strategies through PD, and in-class coaching
  • Facilitate staff teams using student data
  • Implement with a high level of fidelity the curriculum identified and selected by district committees
  • Foster a positive culture of high expectations for adults and students that perpetuates a growth mindset
  • Collaborate with military liaisons to offer direct services to families
  • Collaborate with district leaders to improve alignment between schools in the district, taking on a district leadership role
  • Implement behavior management and social-emotional learning curricula

Serving as an elementary principal in District 187 will provide unique opportunities for professional growth and advancement to the next leader. The next principal will be able to:
  • Dramatically improve student growth and learning, a level of growth not possible in other suburban school districts
  • Assist in a planned redesign of the school building to support 21st-century learning and transform the school's learning spaces
  • Collaborate with a district leadership team that understands and supports the primary role of the principal in school improvement
  • Work directly with state leaders, because of our special relationship to ISBE, and the federal government, because of our special relationship to Naval Station Great Lakes
  • Gain support for strategic initiatives from philanthropic support above and beyond district budgeting
  • Work with engaging and committed students and community members that are supportive of change

  • Proficient computer skills including Google Suite
  • Proficient in IEP software processes and procedures
  • Knowledgeable about teaching and learning
  • Works effectively with data and research to develop and assess district strategies that increase student learning

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Working Conditions: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month position 260 days.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with education and experience, including benefits package
