    REPORTS TO: Director of Career and Technical Education

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Under the general direction of the Director of Career and Technical Education, the Career Pathways Supervisor will build a local Pathways Collaborative to advance career exploration and readiness opportunities for local youth. This includes continually expanding the scope of career development services and tools; pursuit of relationships with postsecondary service providers that can afford students opportunities for career exploration, self-awareness, and entry into employment, job training, apprenticeships, and other postsecondary options. The position educates students on career pathways and engages students in experiential learning opportunities and career planning; prepares them for their job search; and connects them with potential employers.
    The supervisor will support the CTE department in maintaining and establishing key partnerships with employers throughout the surrounding area to create internships, externships, career development and job opportunities for the youth. The position will also increase employer engagement and work to improve the community conditions for young people to successfully transition into the labor market. The overall goal of the position is to expand career development services in order to lead individuals toward a common vision of supporting student career readiness, connects multiple offices and departments together to accomplish program goals, maintains relevant industry knowledge, and operate within a framework of building structures and systems to support students in having a path for success in college, career, and life.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
    • Two or more years experience in areas of student engagement, career development, or job placement
    • Valid driver's licenses and reliable transportation


    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge of:
  • Strong facilitation and project management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral);
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in workforce development, the Illinois Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness Act or Career and Technical Education;
  • Experience in teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level preferred;
  • Experience with meeting coordination, facilitation and documentation;
  • Experience with developing and maintaining collaborative relationships preferred;
  • Existing relationships with, or ability to build relationships with, a cross-sectoral range of stakeholders in the local or regional area.

  • DAILY RESPONSIBILITES:

    Daily responsibilities may include but are not limited to: provide one-on-one career education to students in drop-in and appointment-based formats on the following topics: career exploration, job and internship search skills (networking, resume/cover letter, and interviewing. Creates and delivers presentations and workshops on career-related topics including self-assessment.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Job Functions)
  • Convene and facilitate a local Pathways Collaborative composed of stakeholders including school staff, local employers, institutions of higher education and others to establish a common agenda, shared data metrics, and mutually reinforcing activities.
  • Serve as the backbone of the Pathways Collaborative and build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to align local efforts.
  • Engage and support employer and internship partners, mentors, and guest speakers, in collaboration with the Career and Technical Education department.
  • Develop and maintain local articulation agreements between secondary to post-secondary curriculum alignment.
  • Maintain Career Pathways data tracking and the development of data recording and reporting systems.
  • Establish and update Pathways web information, social media platforms and other communications materials.
  • Identify potential funding opportunities and assist with grant writing efforts that support district pathway goals and priorities.
  • Support youth career exploration sessions and student job placements, particularly over the summer, for students at alternative school and primary high school.
  • Work in collaboration with district staff and partners to advance student supports in Pathways.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, volunteers and partners.
  • Create materials and programs that provide information to parents and students that will assist in selection of a pathway that matches student interest
  • Afford Non-CTE students opportunities for career connected learning that include awareness, exploration, preparation, and work experiences developed through strong public and private partnerships.
  • Organize, review and update career development service publications, ready-to-use presentations, and online resources available to school staff, students, families and networks.
  • Align labor market research and data systems to determine short and long term career access trends and their implication for students in life after high school.
  • Distribute information on internships, local part-time jobs, and summer jobs.
  • Support facilitation of summer internships and lead the development and implementation of youth training.
  • Meet with the CTE Director to assess needs and evaluate the program informall y.
  • Develop new contacts with external organizations for the purpose of expanding non-college postsecondary opportunities for students.
  • Act as a visible and present role model in the schools. Meet with students regularly and document interactions and follow-up activities to understand their job, career goals, career-readiness needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Career and Technical Education.

    Office environment; walking, standing, squatting, listening and speaking to exchange information and make presentations; seeing to monitor various activities; read documents, view computer monitor, kneeling, bending at the waist, sitting for extended periods of time; reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally, or bending at the waist to retrieve and store files; lifting semi heavy objects; driving a vehicle to conduct work, moderate travel.
