    TITLE: Human Resources Specialist

    REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Talent

    SUPERVISES: Not applicable - nonsupervisory position.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month unaffiliated position. Other terms are set by the Board of Education in accordance with the New London Public Schools Unaffiliated Staff Manual.

    PRIMARY FUNCTION:
    Under the direction of the Coordinator, the Human Resources Specialist supports the department in its mission to recruit and retain highly qualified and diverse staff. This position also supports the employee experience by implementing protocols and processes established by the department.

    TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • This description of the POSITION is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the supervisor according to varying needs.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Serves as the point person for all applicants and new employees by answering frequently asked questions. If unable to answer, seeks the answers by directing the questions to the appropriate office.
    • Ensures that the necessary documentation required to make an offer to a prospective employee are in place.
    • Responsible for maintaining organized and up-to-date files.
    • Assists with the audit of HR Files to ensure that all required documents are collected and maintained.
    • Contributes to the revision of the HR Manual and Employee Handbook annually.
    • Provides administrative support to the HR Department as needed.
    • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resources files and records.
    • Addresses questions and concerns of staff members and the public, and advised the Executive Director of Talent and Human Resources promptly of any issues deemed to warrant his/her attention or action.
    • Manages the recruiting platform(s) for the District.
    • Supports the new hire process and orientation.
    • Handles the pre-employment process for new employees including the scheduling and tracking of drug screenings, background checks and mandated training.

    Other:
    • Serves as a member of district committees, as requested.
    • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director of Talent and Human Resources.
    • Contributes to the monthly reports for the department.
    • Supports special projects as needed.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associates degree in a related field or two years of office experience.
    • Prior related office experience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
    • The ability to work effectively with staff, prospective staff and the public at large


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Multilingual, Spanish preferred
    • Prior experience in Human Resources/Recruitment
    • SHRM Certification
    • Hands-on experience with full-cycle recruiting practices.
    • Familiarity with, and ability to work through, social media and professional online networks.
    • Demonstrated skill in developing interview processes and questions.
    • Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems.
    • Ability to establish and maintain high standards of behavior.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    ANTICIPATED SALARY: $60,000-$70,000

    PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by the Coordinator of Talent.
