About the Rio Grande Valley:

 

Since 2000, IDEA Public Schools has grown from a school of 150 students in Donna, TX, to the fastest- growing family of tuition-free, public charter schools in the United States. In the Rio Grande Valley, we are a nucleus of four counties (Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy Counties) that work as one unit to support our children academically and holistically. 

 

RGV is home to a population of just over 1.3 million residents. Children across the region truly benefit from IDEA's mission of college for all, as only 1 out of 17 students currently graduate college ready. Our mission holds true as we have over 5,000 IDEA alumni that currently attend, or have graduated from, 300 colleges and universities across the country.

Role Mission:    The Network Administrator implement s , maintain s , and support s  the day-to-day operation and installation of our various network systems  across all of IDEA's regions .  He/she will be responsible for supporting various access points, switches, routers, and distribution layer devices.  As IDEA continues to grow ,  he/she will also aid in the installation of hardware for new regional offices and campuses.  

 

Accountabilities  

 

Design, implement, and develop network hardware to provide 100%BoY (beginning of year) deliverables by  FDoS  (first day of school) for new campuses  
  • Evaluate network requirements for new campuses including hardware, cabling, data and telecom circuits  
  • Order, configure, and coordinate installations of  network equipment  
  • Define, document, and enforce network system standardization  
  • Manage network configuration back-up procedures  
  • Own network IP design and allocation  
  • Ensure 100% staff members will have proper access  

 

Monitor network performance, troubleshoot problems, and outages to maintain 99.5% uptime for the year
  • Configure and Maintain  SolarWinds, a network monitoring solutio n,  to track network performance and uptime  
  • Provide and support the network services for Headquarters and campuses across all of IDEA  
  • Perform ongoing network maintenance, upgrades and enhancements to optimize network performance, availability, stability and security  

 

Oversee security of all network systems to ensure 0 preventable security incidents are created for the year
  • Maintain firewall and  access control lists  
  • Configure and secure network systems with policies that define and monitor access  
  • Partnering with security operation center to provide resolution to escalations and vulnerabilities  

 

100% of all network infrastructure maintained and analyzed on a quarterly basis
  • Monitoring platform is up to date with accurate maps per region  
  • Network configuration meets compliance based on global configuration template  
  • Bandwidth and traffic patterns reviewed and documented

Qualifications:  
  • Education:  Bachelor's degree  
  • Experience:  Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a network administration role  
  • Licenses or Certifications:  CCNA or CCENT is preferred  

Knowledge and Skills:  
  • Proficient knowledge using Cisco Switch, Router, VPN, and ASA technologies  
  • Ability to setup and configure network and server hardware  
  • Experience with basic protocols and tools such as syslog,  snmp , and  netflow  
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills  
  • Ability to work under varying degrees of pressure  
  • Ability to work flexible hours and support night or weekend work as needed  
  • Experience gathering both internal and client facing documentation and diagrams  

 

Compensation:  

Salaries for this role typically fall between $51,900 and $61,800, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.  This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.
