Education/Certification:
* Master's degree
* Valid Texas Librarian or Learning Resources Specialist certificate or endorsement
Special Knowledge/Skills:
* Knowledge of library science

* Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Effective computer skills

REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE:

• Two years experience of library/media in a public school setting

JOB DESCRIPTION: Supervise and manage the school library/media center. Provide services and
resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing,
and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and
curriculum adviser to ensure that library/media center is involved in instructional
programs of the school.

DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students and other
library users to help them locate resources and use research techniques.

• Consult teachers on appropriate use of materials and help them schedule
materials for classroom instruction.

• Serve as information resource for users of library/media center materials
and provide staff development opportunities for teachers on the availability
and use of campus and district learning resources.

• Effectively plan school library program to meet identified needs.
• Assist in preparation of bibliographies and curriculum guides.
• Make recommendations for acquisitions and manage the processing,

organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library/media
resources.

• Develop and maintain up-to-date resource files including instructional
program schedules and other community resources.

• Scheduling group use of the Learning Resources Center.
• Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and

appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
• Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and

parent involvement.
• Carry out student discipline in accordance with board policies and

administrative regulations.
• Responsible for processing and organizing library materials and equipment.
• Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records,

and other documents required.
• Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and

board policy in the library/media services area.
• Attend conferences to enhance professional growth and participate in

district staff development programs.
• Attend scheduled campus meetings and mandatory meetings held by the

Principal and Director of Library Services.
• Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Director of Library

Services.

INFORMATION:

Mental & Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Ability to communicate
effectively, both verbally and in writing,
effective management and public relation skills, and ability to maintain emotional
control under stress.
Prolonged periods of sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, and occasional
lifting of 40+ lbs. Occasional district-wide travel.
