The Opportunity

This role is an exciting opportunity to serve as a senior leader within a diverse and dynamic team committed to the audacious task of transforming public education in Providence Public Schools. Working alongside a team of dedicated, equity-driven team of professionals, the goal is to deliver on societies' most fundamental obligation: providing all children with access to a fair, equitable and rigorous education. The time for change is now and the district is in the process of a game-changing transformation led by a newly appointed State Turnaround Superintendent, in coordination with the Rhode Island Department of Education and with the support of the larger Providence community. The Executive Director of School Support will play a key role in supporting the Network Superintendent in building and implementing a new district model of school support for their Network schools.

The Role

This is an outstanding opportunity for an education leader with experience managing many facets of an urban public school organization during a period of significant change. The Executive Director of School Support (hereinafter ED) will report to the Network Superintendent and work closely with the rest of the Network Team to support the transformation of public education in Providence.

The ED will be responsible for supporting the development and supervision of school administration and operations. This role will also lead parent communication supports for their Network of Schools to assure high quality customer service to schools and families and prior implementation of district turnaround plan policies and procedures.

To succeed in this role you must have a focus on achievement, display excellent strategic judgement and thinking, be a strong communicator, have experience with operations, human capital, and a track record of successfully managing adults. Successful candidates must also possess a high level of comfort with ambiguity and the willingness to seek new solutions to old problems.

Specific Duties
  • Supervises, coaches, develops and evaluates principals and assistant principals to improve student achievement;

  • Serve as Liaison between Principals, district staff, RIDE, and the community at large;

  • Manage and resolve high priority issues focused on safety, discipline, parent engagement, and crisis management;

  • Develop a team of support-providers and problem-solvers at the Network office to provide strategic support to schools, address stakeholder concerns and complete administrative responsibilities;

  • Support the Network Superintendent in working closely with school leadership on developing and implementing school improvement plans;

  • Respond to the needs of parents, the communities, and schools;

  • Research innovative ideas and programs, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and make recommendations designed to improve schools within the network;

  • Assist Network Superintendents with the regular monitoring and responsiveness of school achievement, discipline, and attendance data;

  • Participate in district meetings serving as a liaison between school leaders and district departments.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide principals and other school personnel a direct contact with the Network Superintendent;

  • Supervise, review, and evaluate subordinates to ensure implementation of district policies and procedures;

  • Conduct and/or attend principal meetings, principal council meetings, network superintendent staff meetings, school faculty meetings, and other appropriate meetings;

  • Take responsibility for expediting any phase of the school program where circumstances dictate action;

  • Visit schools regularly and as often as circumstances dictate for both assistance and evaluation;

  • Investigate and respond to complaints about schools and school personnel;

  • Work closely with each principal so that each school will meet district and accreditation standards;

  • Visit classes and make suggestions to the principal and appropriate staff focused on improving student achievement;

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.


Technical Qualifications
  • A master's degree, degree or formal training in Educational Leadership preferred.

  • RI Administrator's certification

  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in classroom teaching, with three years of related management or supervisory experience.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively and effectively with other school personnel, district staff, parents, and community members; demonstrate superior problem solving ability involving students, teachers, parents, administrators, and the public.

  • Experience in public school administration or other large diverse organizations preferred.

  • Educational leadership, School Principal, or Administration/Supervision preferred.

  • Strong language, analytical, reasoning, and communication skills required.

Pay Range
$127,021 - $136,360
Classification: 12-month administrator
