SUMMARY:
TheExtended School Year (ESY) posiiton provides ECSE specialized instruction in a classroom setting for 8 students ages 3-5.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential duties and responsibilitiesmayinclude, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide case management duties for children on caseload and assume responsibility for due process accountability.
  • Provide individualized intervention to enable children with disabilities to make progress toward accomplishing stated educational goals.
  • Develop and implement evaluations for children referred to the early childhood special education program and those currently in the program.
  • Create or assist in the creation of well-structured learning environments and develop lessons to promote learning in the child's least restrictive environment.
  • Provide adaptations as needed to enhance learning for children with disabilities.
  • Assist with feeding, lifting, positioning and toileting of students.
  • Coordinate special education transportation as needed.
  • To participate in team planning of educational plans for children with disabilities, including the development of appropriate and measurable goals and objectives.
  • To monitor the progress of children with disabilities using specified program procedures for progress monitoring.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and other agencies regarding the educational program of their child.
  • Assess own instructional effectiveness through the Professional Development Process.
  • Participate and contribute as a member of a multidisciplinary educational team.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and teaming.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
  • Prior experience in early intervention services and evaluation for young children with disabilities.
  • Strong skills in parent involvement and education.
  • Working knowledge of the subject matter, classroom management techniques, current researched best practices and strategies, as well as students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.
  • Prior successful experience student teaching or teaching in urban, multicultural education setting.
  • Demonstrates continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration and/or job-embedded staff development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's or PhD

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • A valid Minnesota teaching in the area of Early Childhood Special Education or proof of pending approved licensure.
