Position Effective for the 21/22 School Year (Beginning August 2021)

POSITION/JOB TITLE: Health Aide Paraprofessional

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Performs a wide variety of duties, some of a confidential nature. Performs general nursing duties which may be required but not limited to triaging students, maintaining files, data entry, assisting with screenings, etc. Provides monitoring of students as needed.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides emergency, diabetic, and first aid care.
  • Performs necessary duties on office machines including copy, fax, and laminator
  • Provides first aid and administration of Diastat for seizures
  • Provides medication to students safely including documentation and adhering to the basics of giving students medication safely.
  • Enters immunization records.
  • Documents student health office visitos for those assessed and cared for by the health aide.
  • Assists in vision and audio screenings, height/weight documentation.
  • Prepares medication and provides to appropriate staff for school field trips
  • Follows concussion protocol as required.
  • Follows asthma allergy emergency protocol as required.
  • Triage's students as needed for the school nurse.
  • Notifies the need for immunizations, physicals, authorizations for medication, action plans for serious health conditions with the nurses's direction
  • Orgaizes health cards including students no longer in attendance at the school
  • Updates health office bulletin boards as needed.
  • Model appropriate behaviors for students.
  • Develop and maintain a professional rapport teachers and other staff.
  • May assist students at arrival and dismissal of school.
  • May assist in the supervision of students during lunch and recess periods.
  • Responds to walk in, telephone, doorbell, and intercom customer services needs in a timely, positive, and responsive way.
  • Ability to organize and retrieve materials and organize schedules according to guidelines.
  • Works with office staff to distribute student, parent, and staff communications.
  • Uses intra-school communication systems including radio, intercom, various alarms, paging, etc. as required.
  • Uses mail merge function to create labels, certificates, mailings, and files regularly.
  • Follows oral and written directions accurately.
  • Serves as a backup for other office staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • A highschool diploma or GED.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps and reach overhead
  • Committed to helping all students learn - assist students and reinforce learning concepts for individual or small groups
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and in-service trainings
  • Regular daily attendance is essential
  • Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and handle situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to establish good relationships with parents and staff.
  • Ability to organize, file and retrieve records/materials
  • Ability to work under administrative, secretarial, nurse and staff direction.
  • Must be a proficient reader.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office software include word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook.
  • Proficient typing skills
  • Possess the manual dexterity, physical ability and stamina for a full day of various physical activity

OTHER INFORMATION:

Reports to: Building Principal

Work Schedule: __ hours per day, Monday through Friday, 10 Month, Non-Exempt

Salary: Wages are administered consistent with negotiated agreement or board adopted salary schedule.

Terms of Employment

This position is treated as a full-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

The offer of employment is contingent upon:
  • Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses, certificates, and other requirements for the position (e.g., Paraprofessionals obtaining "Highly Qualified status," etc.), as identified and maintaining all licenses, certificates, and requirements for your position throughout employment.
  • A background check which demonstrates to OPS that background is acceptable for the position.
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered).
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for position offered).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
