Description

  • Supervise and provide leadership for the Disciplary Alternative Education Program Campuses
  • Supervise and provide leadership for Maya Angelou campus
  • Coach campus principals struggling with discipline matters
  • Provide leadership and consultation to district administrators in matters relating to student discipline and truancy
  • Ensure the review of student behavior referrals for accuracy and appropriateness before students are assigned to disciplinary programs
  • Coordinate and facilitate the development of cooperative efforts between the Office of Student Discipline & Truancy and campus administrators regarding procedures and processes in the behavior management and truancy of students
  • Oversee department staff in their role as juvenile justice liaisons between campuses and the Dallas County Juvenile Department
  • Oversee department staff in their role as representatives for the school in matters concerning the operations and management of the juvenile justice alternative education program for expelled students
  • Oversee department staff in their role as court liaisons for the school relating to truancy
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of disciplinary data and the preparation of monthly and annual reports to the Texas Education Agency regarding PEIMS data, gun-related cases, expulsions, and other required reports
  • Convene task force yearly to revise Student Code of Conduct for the upcoming year
  • Oversee the training of all campus administrators on the Student Code of Conduct and related behavior management issues
  • Chair, conduct, and supervise various discipline hearings; coordinate all hearing panels; and ensure due process in all cases
  • Guide, direct, advise, and participate in serious discipline processes and problems, including student suspension and expulsion cases
  • Interpret, prepare, and disseminate information related to Texas Education Codes and legally mandated changes in regard to student discipline and due process
  • Travel to various sites within the district and the community to respond to issues related to discipline and truancy as needed
  • Provide oversight, training, and direction for Student Engagement Coordinators and ensure compliance of the metrics for these positions
  • Oversee the implementation of positive behavior cohorts
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective alternative programs for students at- risk
  • Interact with parents to address their concerns regarding disciplinary and truancy issues.
  • Support the department’s efforts in the implementation of district initiatives
  • Meet regularly with the Deputy Chief of Staff to discuss progress, review data, and identify professional development, budgetary supports, and resources needed
  • Develop and administer the departmental budget and ensure proper business and budget practices of department to ensure effective utilization of funds
  • Keep abreast of technical, legislative, and professional developments affecting assigned responsibilities
  • Direct the development and maintenance of such records and reports as are necessary to keep the Superintendent of Schools, Board of Trustees and other executive staff informed of the district’s progress and future plans
  • Ensure department compliance with TEA, state, federal, and school board policies and laws.
  • Prepare reports and planning documents requiring technical precision, accuracy, readability, and, editorial correctness; and develop systems based on management by objectives and results
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned
  • All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate


Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited university required
  • Texas Administrator's Certificate required
  • Principal experience required
  • Meets all skill sets required for the position
