EL Summer Support Teacher

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
The EL Summer Support Teacher provides general support for Elementary Summer Learning Program (Summer School) English Language Learners and staff. The Elementary Summer Learning Program will tentatively take place mornings July 6 - July 29 (no Fridays) at Oliver Ellsworth (primary) and Clover Street School (intermediate).
Mandatory training Summer Learning staff is tentatively scheduled for June 16, 2021.

NOTE: Summer school personnel must be able to work the entire program time. No vacation or personal time will be granted. Hiring needs are based on student enrollment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attend training/orientation
2. Oversee EL students enrolled in the Summer Learning Program
3. Review LAS Links data to determine appropriate summer academic support
4. Support academic growth and support of ELs in English Language development or reading
5. Provide instruction and practice experiences for ELs attending summer school individually and in small groups
6. Collaborate with assigned summer school teachers to promote student success socially and academically
7. Collaborate with administration, General Education Teacher, Special Education Teacher Leader, and Parks & Recreation staff as needed

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Summer School Coordinator/Teacher Leader and Director of Arts and Humanities or as designated by the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.Ability to organize and coordinate work.Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Qualifications
  • Must possess Connecticut Certification as an Elementary Teacher Connecticut Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.

Education
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Experience
Successful prior teacher leader experience a plus.
