TITLE: Instructional Supervisor - Health and Physical Education (K-12), Driver Education, and Athletics
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility of the Instructional Supervisor is to improve the quality of Instruction in all schools by working with each Principal and Director to develop Instructional plans for each school. PERFORMANCE BESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Assists teachers in selecting and utilizing effective teaching strategies to achieve the goals and objectives.Directs the selection, production, utilization, and evaluation of instructional materials.Supervises textbook adoption.Interviews, evaluates, and recommends teachers and teacher applicants for teaching positions.Designs, plans, and conducts appropriate in-service programs and activities for local school faculties, system-wide groups, and individual teachers.Initiates and pursues programs of self-improvement through participation and involvement in professional organizations at all levels and through continuing form.al and informal study.Directs the writing, interpreting, and evaluation of curriculum guides, grants, and/or programs.Maintains good rapport with the public and stimulate a high interest level in education on the part of the parents and other community individuals or groups.Coordinates and facilitates all policies and procedures of the Driver Education Program.Develops, coordinates, and facilitates all middle school athletic budgets, schedules, and policies as well as monitoring of school and student eligibility.Serves as liaison with officials' association to provide officials for all middle school athletic events.Serves as a member of the Executive Committee for the Louisiana High School Athletic Directors Association to help facilitate effective means to continually improve athletics in our state.Serves as a liaison between principals, coaches, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, and the school system concerning scheduling, eligibility, and operations of local schools' athletic programs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT The Supervisor - Health, PE, Driver Education, and Athletics will work in a climate controlled environment adhering to School Board energy policy and in the outside areas which are subject to climate extremes. Workday consists of regular Central Office hours. The length of the workday varies as the result of evening activities or emergencies. In addition, job responsibilities may require work on weekends or holidays and attendance at meetings.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS The Supervisor - Health, PE, Driver Education and Athletics must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing. Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system and must be able to communicate successfully with students, teachers, parents, school personnel, and the community.
EQUIPMENT USED
The Supervisor - Health, PE, Driver Education and Athletics should be able to use telephones, audio-visual equipment, classroom computer, copy machines, laminators, calculators, and other appropriate machines.

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT
The Supervisor - Health, PE, Driver Education and Athletics should be able to perform these physical activities: standing, walking. reaching. bending. and lifting 10 pounds (sometimes required). Must be able to operate classroom equipment.

MENTAL INYOLVEMENT
The Supervisor - Health, PE, Driver Education and Athletics must be able to plan and implement appropriate educational programs for all students and teachers. Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions. Must keep accurate, up-to-date written records. Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations. Must be able to utilize effective classroom management techniques.

HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT The Supervisor - Health, PE, Driver Education and Athletics must be able to work cooperatively with students, teachers, parents, school personnel, and the community.
Must be able to respond appropriately to supervision and accept commendations and recommendations. Must demonstrate sensitivity understanding interpersonal relations with persons of diverse cultures/backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree from an accredited college or university in supervision or related field. Professional Health and Physical Education certification in the State of Louisiana.
Graduate study in curriculum development, supervision, and administration preferred. A minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience in a Health and Physical Education program. Experiences in more than one area preferred, "Health, Physical Education, Safety, and Driver Education."
