Cultural Resource Specialist

Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent or such alternative qualifications the Board shall deem appropriate.
Reports To: Title VI Program Director
Supervises: None
Job Goal: To assist Native American Students to be successful in school

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Works directly with the Title VI Program Director.Serves as an advocate for the Native American Students in the School System.Serves as an advocate for the parent(s) on school matters pertaining to Native American students.Communicates between the schools of the District and the Wind River Indian Reservation.Participates and advocates for parents through the Title VI Parent Committee meetingsAssists the students in his/her schedules and encourages students in his/her school involvement.Assists in the development and support of the cultural curriculum, cultural events and provides cultural reports and resources as necessary.Ensures open communication between all parties involved: Parents, Indian Education Committee, Program Director, School administrators and the Board.Assists teachers in working with Native American students and monitors classes should the need arise. Tutors students as requested.Attends professional development and trainings pertinent to Title VI.Maintains records for the District regarding Native American students as required. Provides information and assistance to parents regarding the progress of the children.Assist parents of Native American children to define, obtain, and maintain the educational needs of their children. Meets with parents and students to address these needs.Provide information and secure parental consent for student special services.Gathers and maintains supporting data for the Title VI Indian Educating Program.Submits reports when requested by the Program Director and the Board.Conducts home visits and arranges for parent conferences.Attend all Title VI meetings.Collects and tracks 506 forms per established guidelines.Monitors the attendance, discipline and recognitions of achievement of Native American students.

Physical Requirements: This position must be able to gather or collect the appropriate supplies and distribute those to the areas they are needed in. There is some lifting, pushing, pulling involved, and occasionally up to 25 pounds.

Terms of Employment: Designated by Contract. Evaluation: The program Director shall evaluate the position.
