PURPOSE OF JOB: As the Public Relations Coordinator, this person will be a relationship manager, writer, event planner, media savvy connector, storyteller and collaborator. This person will join a highly engaged, connected and motivated team in KCPS's Marketing and Communications department.

This person will help convey the role, objectives, accomplishments and needs of KCPS

to our students, staff, families and community to earn their understanding and support of the district's mission and vision. This person understands how to provide timely and accurate information to various internal and external constituencies and bolster support for our schools. This person also understands reputation management and brand awareness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Writes – is an advanced writer. Helps tell the story of KCPS – our students, families, staff and community.

Assists in developing comprehensive, research-based public relations plans that identify key community stakeholders and outlines specific activities for the purpose of continually improving communications.

Coordinates website information, district newsletters (internal and external), district communication platforms, district informational documents, marketing collateral, and social media content, among others.

Coordinates press and media releases for the purpose of providing accurate and timely information.

Coordinates and produces media analytics for the purpose of engaging, tracking and managing media presence.

Helps produce creative content - visuals, graphics, photos and presentations – with the support of graphic designers and videographers.

Coordinates District events and activities including, but not limited to: Summerfest, Teacher of the Year programming, recognition and celebration events, Convocation and student town hall events.

Helps create policies and procedures for the purpose of communication and public relations activities for the District at every level.

Helps create public relations campaigns to reinforce the District's key messages and objectives.

Works directly with the public and members of community groups on projects for the purpose of enhancing the image of the District and advancing its objectives, mission and vision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field.

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in public relations and/or communications.

Strong leadership ability, presentation skills and the ability to evaluate pending and/or potential matters and development resolutions and/or responses which are consistent with the District's mission.

Demonstrated experience and success in managing and supervising multiple tasks.

The ability to maintain confidentiality and manage information.
