Program Description
This position will be located in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Department. The incumbent will provide professional development, coaching, and related services to teachers, paraprofessional staff, and Minnesota Reading Corps members in Minneapolis Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms or in Community Child Care Centers. He or she will also promote the District Pre K and Kindergrten curriculum;work within the District's academic division implementing the District's academic agenda to provide a world class education for all Minneapolis Public School (MPS) students; and work closely with schools and many other departments at MPS to ensure that the work is focused on the following areas: accelerated academic achievement for all students, shared accountability for student learning, professional development for teachers and principals, and creating respectful/welcoming school environments.

The incumbent will alsodevelop and facilitate workshops for a variety of early education audiences; develop and implement research-based instructional practices in District classrooms; identify and provide research-based early literacy resource materials for use during study groups; assist building teams in using data to drive and refine instructional practices; assist schools in identifying exemplary supplemental and intervention early learning materials; support District planning and communicate District information to building staff; increase parent and community awareness of the literacy curriculum and support for District literacy initiatives; assist teams in examining cultural differences and their impact on student achievement; and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Five (5) years of experience as an early childhood or Pre-K teacher in an urban setting
- Valid State of MN Teaching License in one of the following areas:
  • Early Childhood Education B-grade 3
  • Early Childhood Education PreK-grade 3
  • Family Education-Early Childhood PreK

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Experience in providing professional development, including coaching

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
